Wow! I've known that a game can end in a tie if there is no one who scores at the end of overtime for as long as I can remember. It is unimaginable to me that an NFL player wouldn't have know.

YouTube - tie? tie?

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

To many cheese steaks will do that.....

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

Check out his Wonderlic.

He scored a 12.

Are you still surprised?

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

I don't know if I should be laughing or crying that someone could be a starting QB in this league and NOT know this.

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

My 76 year old mother who just started following the NFL last year knows that....how is this even possible for an NFL QB? Maybe I should have taught McNabb the basics too!

Wow a 12, ESPN will pay top dollar for this level of talent and he will not need to know his craft on ESPN either.

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

He also didnt know he should hurry up his plays in the SB against us, so why would this be surprising :D

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

Speculation in Philly is that Andy Reid wasn't aware of it either.
McNabb done in Philly, and Reid too.

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

What an embarassment for both the head coach and QB

The play calling at the end for the Eagles was really odd, this may explain it.

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

His butt ignorance is jaw droping. And you'd think that the coaches would have somehow appraised him of the game situation while he was on the sidelines, assuming of course that THEY knew. McNabb came from intelligent parents but something is obviously missing. Years ago pre-Brady I was a big McNabb fan but each season since, he's worked hard to change that ill-founded opinion.

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

Didnt jhe play in a tie game a few years back? I know the Eagles tied the Ravens, but i dont remember when, maybe it was right before he was drafted?

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

That's really inexcusable.

I think Reid is to blame mostly, I've heard he also didn't know. If the coach is clueless to situations what do you think the players are going to be.

Most of us can recite what the ref says at the start of overtime....
" this is sudden death, first team to score wins... we play one 15 minute period, 4th quarter rules, 2 timeouts"............
I posted elsewhere that the Eagles record in games decided by 7 points or less is atrocious ( something like 1-9) and that goes back to coaching....
I can see a rookie making that error, basing it on college rules, but a ten year vet?????
When they played the rest of the video, it was even worse. He asked what would they do in the playoffs or Super Bowl, call it a tie??? I think that this is the beginning of the end of the Reid/McNabb era in Philly. They have been a .500 club the last 4 years and are living off their reputation......poor coaching, poor play calling, poor execution....
What do you want to bet that every member of the Pats lockerroom knows the rules ??

These are the Patriots we're talking about. Even the waterboys know the rules. :)

Even scarier--apparently, there was a report after the game saying that multiple members of the Iggles were apparently unaware of the OT rules.

I'm betting that a Parcells team, Holmgren, Cowher (wherever he ends up) or a Shanahan one knows the rules... All are coaches who have been there for a decade or more like Reid....

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

thats really funny. how could he not know there could be a tie

this was a lie spread from someone in the McCain campaign, and frankly, they are cowards for saying it. ;)

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

Another thing that baffles me is why announce this to the public. It is dumb enough to not know the rules but even dumber to tell the whole world that this is the case.

Side Note: The last teams that tied were the Steelers and Falcons in 2002 and the Eagles played the Falcons in the last game of the season in 2002 meaning there was a whole week there that Donovon decided not to ask why there were 3 numbers on the opponents record. (was he hurt that year and missed the game?)

This really does beg the question what other NFL rules does he not know. Maybe, as another poster joked, he didn't know you are allowed to call plays without going into a huddle and maybe that is why they didn't run the hurry up.

I thought he was joking at first, but then he reiterated he was serious about not knowing games could end in a tie. Then he questioned what happens in the playoffs or Superbowl...egad!

Regards,
Chris

Re: OT: McNabb didn't know a tie was possible

I think we can now add Philly to the list of possible destinations for JMcD and Cassel. ;)
