Ty Law signed for the veteran minimum

And its being prorated per game he plays. Peanuts.
What a fool...he could have signed for much more at the beginning of the year.

He really dissed BB and the Patriots, but I was very impressed with his play against the Pats on Thursday night. He looked good and the Patriots really could have used him as another CB and backup safety

However this year's diss is the ultimate insult to BB and the Patriots.

Wow. Seriously? That's too bad. I would've loved to see him end his career here, and or transition into a safety/nickel back role. Guess all his talk about loving the Patriots and wanting to play here was BS. If we offered him more money and he still didn't take it, wtf.

Right, he told Steve Burton after the game that Mangini was willing to offer Law a more concrete role in the defense than Belichick was.

I never disliked Ty Law (or others) irrespective of all the public utterances at the time before and after his departure from the Pats because players need not have to sacrifice their earnings just because the team is asking them to.

But if it is true that he signed for the vet min, it is clearly a sound and insulting slap to the Pats and the Patsfans, and will make me join the Ty-haters club immediately.

I think this is more insulting than AV signing with the Colts (at least he did it for $ close to his market value and was mad at BB for the promises BB broken w.r.t franchise tag).

Count me in. Law was always a big-mouth who even so:

1. Worked and played hard to succeed at football.
2. Didn't do anything that particularly contradicted the team-first ethos. (E.g., he may not have done as much to help rookies as many other defensive vets, but at least he seemed to be friendly and vaguely supportive to them.)

But if he is now focused on near-guaranteed playing time, etc. -- the heck with him. He's a non-Patriot.

I was shocked at the kind of shape he was in. I was expecting some puffiness in the midsection and he looked fairly svelt by Ty Law standards.

Ty and Lawyer were part of the culture Bill had to change when he came here. They bought in initially, as did Tedy and Willie and Troy and Adam and several veterans Bill needed to win over to sell his way and system. But once the first ring was in hand Lawyer started to revert to the guy who wanted to bask in the glow of success. He cautioned others to get your credit (pro bowls, money) and make sure that talent got the credit over system. Ty and the others were not vocal clubhouse leaders like Lawyer and generally kept their own counsel, so while a couple of them had similar mindsets they didn't effect the culture like Milloy was starting to. That is why he had to go early on. He wasn't focused on the same singleminded goal of winning championships.

Eventually Ty and Adam and Willie had enough rings and while they didn't undermine Bill they just wanted theirs, here or elsewhere. And in ty's case wanted not just money but a chance to prove he was more than a product of a system. Wanted to be courted by some HC/GM. Bill doesn't court. He doesn't publicly fawn or even allow his players to portray him as fawning. He doesn't make promises he may not be able to keep just to reel you in. Other organizations do or at least have no issue with players portraying themselves as special...

Troy and Tedy in the end were the only two holdovers who truly bought all in. Luckily for Bill he found a couple of others in Brady, Harrison and Vrabel who more than made up for the others opting out. Welker was born all in...Randy seems to have bought in although he did get his finances covered...

Richard has never been all in. He was raised by Lawyer. He's kind of conflicted in wanting it all (money, laurels, rings). Hopefully some of the younger starters like Warren and Wilfork and even Mayo will be all in guys. Asante was never in, which is why Bill let him go and loves Hobbs - he plays hurt and with abandon that belies a guy who has not yet gotten his (financially).

Ty and Lawyer were my boys back in the late 90's. They seldom let me down on the field. Off it, crashing disappointments and therefore dead to me. I don't feel that way about AV or Willie because I don't think they had nearly the choices. 'Sante and Meion are also dead to me because I think they both got way more than they earned out of their brief mid dynasty soujourn here and it was always just about getting theirs for those two.

He does get a little mushy about Ed Reed and his players have taken note of it--in a teasing way, of course.

yea i guess TY didn't want to earn his playing time like everybody else. To be honest the way he played on thurs day he would probably be our number 3 or be starting at safety. TY you really suck

And beyond... He was playing physical Ty Law bump and run and bump some more. Had he been facing Peyton's WR's Bill Polian might have launched himself out of the press box to file a formal protest at midfield over failure to enforce the Ty Law rule...

ty law signing has become a bigger story than it is. if the refs called a 5 yard chuck rule once he would have stopped doing it. even in the last TD play ,he tacked moss

Isn't this what people wanted Law to do: To put money aside and do whats in his best playing interest.

It looks like he did that; with the Jets, he was told exactly what his role would be; with the Pats, he was not told what his role would be; He decided to go to the team where you knew for sure he would get playing time; and apparantly did so while taking a hit on the wallet.

Obviously, his legacy would've been better if he signed with the Pats; but if he thought there was a chance he'd be the #3 and barely get any playing time on the Pats, vs the guarantee he'd get tons of time with the Jets, can you fault him for going with the Jets?

The way he played, he would've been #2, and perhaps #1.

Was he really that good? Matt Cassel put up 400 yds on the Jets and never touched the ball in OT. I did not focus on Law the whole game, but it seems like his game is still to hold onto the receiver for as long as he can. He was mugging Randy Moss in the endzone (which unbelievably, wasn't called) and Randy still managed to catch the ball. As soon as they start calling that penalty on Law (and they will - p.s. they probably would have started calling it sooner if he joined the Pats), he's toast.

While he was certainly worth the vet minimum to the Pats, I doubt he'd be our #1 or #2 corner at this point. And if he came here and they started calling him for a hold every play (let's face it refs are going to be more biased on this if he's on the Pats) he wouldn't get much playing time.

Ty being Ty.... Manny being Manny. That's what he's going to be remembered most for. Too bad.

That's my real concern here. We need to put rivalries aside and realize that is all just football and not as important as someone's family starving to death. Be mad at Law if you want, but his kids didn't do anything to you, so why should we let them suffer?

We need to start a food drive for Ty Law's family ASAP! There is no way he can feed his family on Vet Min.
