Brock Lesnar beat Randy Couture in UFC Fight...Patriots connection

Ok, many of you are wondering why I'd post this on a Patriots fan forum. Here's the connection:

"Before gaining prominence in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Lesnar was an accomplished amateur wrestler winning the 2000 NCAA wrestling championship and placing second in 1999, losing in the finals to New England Patriots offensive lineman Stephen Neal."

Just thought it was an interesting tidbit and couldn't figure out how to fit it into another thread.

Stephen Neal (when healthy) is one bad MoFo!

Wow, was wondering who won, Couture needs to retire, 45 years old is like 70 in mma age.

Lesnar and Fedor are the only 2 HW that have a chance of beating Couture.

I'm no big UFC guy, but the fight looked weird. It was odd to start off with considering there was about a 60lb difference between the fighters. Lesnar kept grabbing the fence to prevent Randy from taking him to the ground.....i thought that was illegal, but nothing was done. Then Randy gets hit with a right hand that barely grazes his head and he goes down. Randy takes about 20 hits to the face and the ref doesn't stop it, then he looks to start to recover and the ref stops the fight....really weird.

I couldn't see a replay, so I am hoping the hit to the head was worse than it looked because after the elite XC fiasco MMA can't take another hit like that.

That right hand looked more like it hit Randy's temple if you look at the replays

Lesnar grabbed the fence twice and was warned by the ref...that is typically what happens in MMA. Randy took a hit to the temple adn was then pounded...I don't think Randy was recovering at all from the pounding...the ref should have stopped it earlier. I think because it was Coutoure the ref didn't stop it as quickly as he would have for a lesser fighter.

I also think that Coutoure skills have diminished the past couple years as they would with any fighter pushing 40.

A huge weight difference in the heavy weight class is not unusually. Fedor has fought some big guys and taken them all down. After watching the Lesnar/Coutoure fight I would be very interested in a Fedor/Lesnar fight.

the damage was done well before that hit

lesnar had gotten some good shots in earlier

i thought couture was going to submit him in the 1st but lesnar got him off his leg pretty quick

lesnar must have been flashing back to the mir fight cause once randy grabnbed his leg lesnar freaked out haha

props to lesnar though, he's the champ and at least he finally showed a little respect after the fight

ufc doesn't need disrespectful *******s ruining the sport, it's a good sport.

That RH that hit Randy hit him behind the ear, surely it gave his brain a jolt. Then Lesnar pounded him. The ref gave him a chance, more than they give most, but Couture was done. He was in outerspace when lesnar got off of him. After the fight you could clearly see his nose was mangled and he was shown playing with a few loose front teeth.

If you are insinuating a dive, you couldn't be more wrong. I understand your thoughts, esp. after the Elite XC crap (setting up Kimbo and he still loses), but not here.

I'm not trying to insinuate anything...just stating what I saw. Again I am no MMA expert....and usually watch these with friends who are. (they own a gym and train, ref mma) They would have set me strait for sure if I had watched it with them, all I was saying is that it seemed like a weird fight and stating my thoughts.

Lesnar had a 40-50 lb advantage didn't he? It's not surprising that he won. Anyone with that weight advantage with any kind of skill should win.

Just get Fedor in there, he'll kill Lesnar.

I dont think Lesnar deserved a shot this quick but i like him and he definitely proved he belongs in the UFC. Incredible fighter

Just another piece of Trivia - Neal is the only wrestler to have eaten both Lesnar AND Olympic Wrestler Kurt Angle (of WWE and TNA Wrestling).
