On Paper The Jets Should Win This Game. On The Field It's Another Story.

I expect the Pats to showcase Matt Cassel's arm strength early in this game by going deep to Randy Moss. Getting a lead early is imperative against Favre. Force him to make mistakes & he'll make them.

Moss will only make a play if Revis falls down, which happens.

Very good points.
Pats the #7 ranked rush O against the #4 rush D.

Maybe I should edit my post to less then 100 yards,,,,,nah.

Good for you, Gunnails. Stick to your guns.

I would be concerned about your statement regarding vulnerabilities to screens and short passes from TEs. If you have tuned into the Patriots at all this season, the offense has spent some quality time working those very plays.

I no longer attempt to predict what the Pats offense will do. If something seems to make sense against an opposing team, Belichick goes in a different direction and it works even better. It should be an entertaining game to watch.

Great post JSn. Especially the part about the simplicity of the design of our attack. Most people, myself included, have listened to everyone talk for so long about how complex this system is that we don't realize the true brilliance behind the schemes.

One example of this and the kind of confusion Trent Edwards might have been referencing in your quote, is a play Randy Cross mentioned on Sunday. He showed how the Pat's scheme had caused the Deltha O'Neal INT in the 4th Q that set up the Pat's long final TD drive and buried the Bills chances.

Cross mentioned that O'Neal had lined up man-to-man on the slot (short) receiver and had come up to bump him at the line. He said Edwards read that coverage and believed he would have a window to throw into on the mid range pass to the outside because the Safety wouldn't get there in time. Of course Edwards read the defense wrong, because the coverage was actually designed to show exactly what Edwards read but then to have O'Neal actually slip back into coverage on the outside where he would be in perfect position to make the critical INT. IMO, that INT goes to the coaching as much as it does to the player. Great stuff! Thanks for pointing it out.

i dont think there will be any deep bombs early in the game.remember, the weather is also a factor.

my thinking is that the 'new wrinkle' the pats are going to bring in against the jets is the no-huddle.....they haven't done that with cassel yet, and is the perfect thing to take jenkins out of his game........no-huddle and dink and dunk for a couple of first downs, then run the ball.......combine that with lots of roll-outs for cassel, and the jets 'D' can get gassed pretty easy.......they are tough against the run, but their front 7 is one of the slowest in the NFL

only more reason to try something early. the DBs will have a hard time planting & if you can catch them on a double move that could create a lot of separation.

The thing I am worried about is our secondar getting picked apart in the short game or just flat out burned deep.

I am also damned annoyed as I will be on a con call with Indoneasia starting at 9PM. Timing could not be worse.

These things sound nice, but I think we're going to see some pretty basic routes in the passing game, especially on the deep guys. Posts and Flags. Wet turf can turn into a knew sprain pretty easily. As hard as the recievers will be to catch, they'll be running in the same junk as the defenders. I expect a few overthrown balls as a result.

What is it with you Jets fans and Revis? He's a promising young CB, but he's not even a top 10 corner yet and you refer to him like he's Champ Bailey or something. One-on-one and Moss would destroy him.

Revis is definetly a top 10 CB, I don't think he has been scored on once by, Fitzgerald, Ocho Sinco, Lee Evans, Moss, Bowe, etc.

He pretty much took Moss out of the game in week 2, well at least Moss didn't score on him. Moss 2 receptions for 22 yards in week 2

the pats weren't looking for moss in cassel's first start..........but who cares if they go to moss since the jets have no clue how to cover the short stuff

hey....the jets gave career days to tyler thigpen and trent edwards.........I don't believe you want that happening for matt cassel

Thigpen yes, Edwards no, I agree the Jets are vulnerable on the screen, and over the middle routes, areas that Cassel and the Pats excell at.

Alright this is my first week trying to right a post that breaks down the upcoming game and hopefully you guys like it and more will come. The game this week between the Pats and Jets will be a low scoring affair with
the Pats coming out on top. The reasons I believe the pats will be victorious are simple. The Pats have been playing conservative on both sides of the ball for most of the year like the Pats of old. But recently they have been allowing Cassel on the off. to open it up a little with some 4 and 5 receiver sets. Cassel is becoming more and more confident behind a healthy line. As well as our running game as of late. Ben Jarvus Green Ellis had his first 100yd game of his career last week. Now I know that the Broncos, Colts, Rams, and a injured Bills aren't exactly the best in the NFL but it gives this offense a sense of identity. Cassel is completing nearly 70 percent of his passes and is doing better managing the game. If it weren't for a Gaffney drop and a Dave Thomas penalty we would be 7-2 and and 5 of the last 6 games. However those are plays you must make to win in this league. The Jets def is giving up 21 pts a game and just picked up Law who is challenging Cassel to throw at him. But I think with a steady dose of Welker and Green Ellis with the occasional threats to Moss will keep the off. rolling. Now for the def side of the ball. The pats are doing well, considering talks of them being to old and Harrison being out for the season. They are giving up a little over 17 pts a game and are now missing Wheatley and A. Thomas. Though, with the emergence of Merriweather and O'neal it seems to be coming around and the secondary should be able to take advantage of a mistake prone Favre. J. Mayo is also coming on really strong as he leads the def in tackles and I think will keep T. Jones in check who really only has success against Oakland and St. Louis. Also there has only been one 100yd rusher this season and that was Ronnie Brown and I was at that game and don't think the Jets are wildcat ready. The game will be decided by the line and whether or not we will get good penetration and get in Favres face to make his famous back foot throws. This will be a very good game on an extremely bad network but thats a discussion for another time. Pats 20 Jets 17.

Why have they waited this long to "showcase Matt's arm strength" and "throw the deep ball"?.........Mostly because when he goes deep a fair amount in a game....bad things happen....his INT rate is going to go up.......They have kept Cassel throwing in short to medium zones with good success....I know he has progressed somewhat but I don't see a big deviation from what the OC has had him doing....we shall see....

Its funny how he sits and talks as of Revis is out there 1 on 1 with Moss and no help behind him, theres always a saftey rolling over the top where Moss is at. Revis wouldnt stand a chance left alone with Moss 1 on 1 no DB in the NFL would.

I disagree with some of what you say but i respect your opinion b/c its written with a lot of facts and non bias opinion. One thing though, Jones only had 68 yards I believe versus buffalo but he only ran 11 times. For his workload he played very well
