Congrats to Cassel

Cassel did well yesterday. Like I said in the game thread. He has earned my respect. I give him big time props. He still makes me nervous. He still has a long way to go to earn my trust, but the kid is getting there.
His supporting cast wasn't too shabby either. Kevin Faulk was my MVP of the game yesterday. He came up big for us. Sammy Morris did too. That was a complete team VICTORY. From Cassel right on down to the last special teams player. :)

He did OK today. Why does my thread stating such get erased?

I think the kid is progressing well. Not a great start but he generally got better as the game went on despite being under a lot of pressure for the most part. He still hangs onto the ball a bit too long but eventually he'll figure out that there are times when it's better to just throw it out of bounds and move on to the next down rather than take a sack. He's probably got a little confidence going now and certainly has the arm strength.

It seems as the more game action he will see, the more he will improve. I'd like to see a decrease in sacks, but I guess sacks are better than INT's?

I guess it will be a quiet week on the board? What will all the Cassel haters post about? :)

I actually think FAULK was the man today, he was darting all over the place, emabrrassing them and making them look outright slow and stupid.
He bailed out Cassel and McDaniels numerous times, when he should have been caught behind the line or early in his run.

Casssel did enough to win the game, he played pretty decent except that idiocy throw where he had 20 minutes to make a decision, and he still threw it in the stands when he still had time to make a play.

You DO realize that EVERY QB misses "seeing" open receivers, right?
If you've ever watched a game in person, it happens fairly often.

My man Faulk is underappreciated here. He's the Troy Brown of RBs for this club.

Cassel is getting it done. I was 50-50, at best, on him going into this week but he's played well and I am now confident that he is a league average starting QB. Will defenses catch up to him or will he improve through confidence and playing time ? Could go either way, I think more likely the latter as he should have more growth in him than most due to his extreme lack of career playing time.

Nice thread :)

It's very encouraging and exciting to see Matt improve each week, and good to see him connect on the long pass too. He did a great job!

He was interviewed the other day on EEI regarding the long throws, and he said for a developing QB it's much better to learn to make the short passes and work on accuracy first before you throw the bombs.

He's a work in progress and what we've seen so far bodes very well for November. Great job Matt:rocker:

Cassel is a backup QB. He did as well as I'd expect him to, so I'm very pleased! He threw for a TD, almost had another with Watson, which is great. Yes, he missed open receivers in the end zone -- he was under pressure and Moss was on the opposite side of the field to where he was rolling. I think in general, Cassel loses his downfield vision when under pressure, or he specifically decides to not risk a throw. Being conservative is okay by me at this point in his career. Let him grow into it.

I'm optimistic he'll improve his chemistry with the OLine as he gets real-game experience. I'm optimistic he'll improve overall.

This was the kind of win we need to keep getting, coming from behind, playing with small leads. Of course, I trust the team doesn't panic anywhere near as much as the fans :)

Folks like you should post more

Cassel is doing all that anyone has any right to expect from a backup who hasn't started in the NFL until this season. He is well-coached. He will get better as he learns the position and in more in synch with his OL and receivers.

If people would just take these two posts to heart, and be guided by them when it comes to looking at the Patriots' QB situation, there would be a lot less whining and the board would be a happier, calmer place. Cassel is a backup, and he's a backup for a reason. Once people stop expecting Cassel to be Brady, they'll be able to enjoy a season where no game is a gimme, every opponent is a legitimate threat, and every victory has become "a big win".

1 'good' game will not change my mind about Cassel because it's too early to call. I'll see what he is going to do to SD team this week.

What i want to see from him are improvement and consistency. If he can do that this week, i'll congratulate him here.
