Brady threw one TD in his 1st SB not 2, to David Patten near the end of the first half to go up 14-3. I believe he was 15-27 and 195 yards or something like that. They thing that made him the SB MVP was the last drive to get them in position for the winning FG. I believe he started at his OWN 18 with only 1:08 left. Brady showed nerves of steel on that drive. Even Madden, who said that they should have kneeled on the ball said he was getting goosebumps on that drive. Personally, It's something I will never, ever forget.

I wouldn't call Brady's SB bad,(not even close to bad,no int's in his first SB was pretty darn good) but it wasn't as good as his performances in t SB's 38 & 39.

Roethlisburger's (SP) performance was pretty brutal, QB Rating in the 20's or 30's, it was Seattle's fault that they didn't take advantage. Unfortunately Big Ben took away Brady's title as youngest QB to win (not lose ?) a SB, despite his every attempt to lose it. Big Ben is a good QB, but not even in Brady's stratosphere yet.

Big Ben has only played two years in the NFL and he has a 25-3 record and a Super Bowl ring. Say what you want but in Brady's second season, he wasn't much better. You are comparing Brady NOW and that's unfair because he's in his prime and the best QB in the NFL. Big Ben may not be as good as Brady but if Brady is #1, Ben isn't too far down the list when it comes to winning, leadership and intangibles. Don't act like Steelers fans would act. Give the guy his due and move on. He's a good player and he has shown that in his first two years in the NFL.

Big Ben certainly isn't a bad quarterback, and you're right when you say that when he's Brady's age it'll be a more fair comparison. But there's no denying that he had an awful Super Bowl (unlike Brady in his first), and I thought that was the whole point of this thread.

All you have to do is keep ESPN in perspective as they are the new Disney Comedy Network.

Your low in journalism is my high in comedy, it's all how you look at it.?

Take ESPN for what it is obviously intended for, comedic releaf from an otherwise spressfull world.? :D

how can anyone be upset by what some mook named Trey says...heh...Trey Wingo...right..this mutt never gets out of 4th grade back in the day...".Trey?..oh yes, Sister, we saw him...down on the train tracks playing chciken with the 12:10 to NYC...nope...ain't seen him since.."

Maybe you were not listening.I was comparing them both at the time of their first superbowl.Brady was in his second year but his first year as starter(not even a whole year remember bledsoes 0-2 start )Worthless was in his second full year as a starter and had playoff experience(remember brady and co whipped em pretty good)So take that ...swallow...digest...learn.Face it Big ben is a meatstick who hands the ball off.

Tom Brady - SB XXXVI:
16-27 (59.3%), 145 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 86.2 QB Rating

Ben Roethlisberger - SB XL:
9-21 (42.9%), 123 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs, 22.6 QB Rating

Case closed. Roethlisberger's performance isn't even in the same dimension as Brady's.
Yep, sure Trey, throwing a TD, being over 50% passing, not making any mistakes and orchastrating the game winning drive, throwing it around, regardless of Madden's, "I dont agree what hes doing here!"

Yep Trey, that sure is as bad as Big Bens 2 INT's and less than 50% pass completions, give me a break, screw ESPN, ignore their crap.

The really amazing thing about this piece on NFL Live is when they talked about "QBs to fear in the future" and listed CASSEL as one of the two QBs they featured in this category.

Hey sieglo buddy confirm for everyone else at home that Trey Wingo made that stupid remark about Bradys first superbowl. This thread has spread to kffl and patriotsplanet they are having a hard time believing this was said.Lets start the call for Trey Wingos head!E-mail ESPN ...Write your congressman. Can we let this blasphemy go unpunished?I say thee nay!!!!!!!!Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?Forgive me All-Mighty God for I know not what course others may take but as for me give me liberty...or give me Trey Wingos death!..Oh yeah and it seems the Cs got the seventh pick...good luck to them.:)

Trey Wingnut is one of the very many assclowns that unfortunately represent sports writers/sports casters....why isn't there any good ones????Someone should start a thread of the GOOD ONE'S.My thanks ahead of time to whomever does start it...My nomination...so far I'm at a loss of words. That's how bad it is.I would say Peter King...but he is even quite iffy at times.I like Boomer...but...he is agitating at times.

thanks for brining this to our attention. I have just lost the respect I had for Trey.

I like Ben, but the Pittsburgh apologists are quickly turning me against him.

facts:
- the passing lines aren't even close.
- ben looked like he was in diapers
- tom managed SB-36 like a grizzled veteran
- our offense didn't open up because we were protecting a lead for 95% of the game.
- As they did for most of the season, the coaches had a tight leash on tom until the game got tight -- and you have to give the coaches credit for trusting him to do something that had really never been done in pro football history.
- If our QB had a bad game we get destroyed in that game.

  • both teams played solid team defense.
  • the steelers had a slightly overrated ground game.
  • the pats did not have a playoff caliber ground game.
  • the steelers had a way better O-line.
  • the steelers had better offensive weapons.
  • the steelers were favored to win.
  • the pats were 14 point underdogs (the line was +16 earlier in the week)
main difference: we had testicular fortitude...players and coaches alike...and a better QB.

There have been some god awful passes thrown in super bowl history...but I have never seen anything like the duck he lobbed to a wide open defender on the goal line WITH ZERO PRESSURE in his face.

and no, he did not break the plane...you have to see a guy actually break the plane to rule a TD...the official did not see ben break the plane because the replay is clearly inconclusive (not an oxymoron)...when a play on the goal line is unclear, you have to call him short and let the replay award the TD, because you can't take those points back once you raise up your arms.

and no, that bomb to ward on 3rd down in the first half was not an "amazing play" -- the only reason it worked is because the defenders couldn't believe he'd just tried something that amazingly dumb. If Tom had made that throw he would've been immediately benched for Bledsoe.

Ben was not only awful, he actually caught a couple breaks along the way.

end rant.

He seriously should be addressed and put in his place for saying that. That is the stupidest thing i have heard on there. I would have guessed merril hodge if you just me the statement and asked who did it. Its so gay, they all say garbage and feel like they have to go out on a limb and say something extreme due to the fact that they film 4 nfl lives a day. Cut it down to 2 a week and quit making **** up

they should be informed on how ridiculous a statement that was.

That is low, but ESPN will have to stay up nights and put on thinking caps and take lots of ginseng in order to come up with an idea as low as Bonds on Bonds.
That is the exact response I had in my mind too. They have pretty much destroyed any shred of journalistic integrity they may have once had with that show.

But yeah, the Roethlisberger comment is a stupid one too.

The average Joe living outside of New England has no idea. Due to the Patriots loss to Denver the Patriots dynasty is over. What is surprising is the experts are not any better. Patsox, you hit the nail on the head (younger, more athletic, and cap flex). Now, throw a pissed off Brady into the mix and we are going to see major dividends this year.

What?!?! The "Patriots dynasty" is over?

Are you sure? I'm not convinced until I hear it from the Oracle of Delphi himself:

http://www.consortiumnews.com/2005/020805.html

NOTE: The first paragraph of that article is the only one that is pertinent. The rest is pure political dribble and I didn't notice it was so until after posting the link... my apologies. The point is, has Proehl declared "The dynasty is over, baby!"... and IF he has, does that mean it is or isn't?
****

And just for fun, I ran across ColdHardFootballFact's blurb on BB and thought it was funny:

Bill Belichick – The NFL’s resident “genius” of 2004 was anything but when he opened his eyes on the morning of Feb. 3, 2002. Belichick entered Super Bowl XXXVI with a career record of just 55-61. The public's strongest memory of his coaching career was his 2000 on-air meltdown in New York in which he announced that he was resigning as “HC of the NYJ.” It was cited as a painfully awkward effort to emerge from the large and resplendent shadow of his meaty mentor, Bill Parcells. “Pundits” went so far as to question Belichick’s sanity.

The whispers were silenced in Super Bowl XXXVI. Belichick’s Patriots held the Greatest Show on Turf to 17 points, a performance that cemented his reputation as a defensive mastermind. Quietly, new rumors spread around the NFL: rumors that questioned whether Parcells would have won two Super Bowls as the head coach of the Giants if not for the assistance of his defensive coordinator.

Ricky Proehl – The football gods have made Proehl pay for the hubris he displayed moments before kickoff in Super Bowl XXXVI. They have twice dangled a tantalizing carrot of Super Bowl heroism in front of his face. They have twice offered Proehl an opportunity to add a postscript to his career beyond just “spunky NFL journeyman.†They have twice kicked him in the balls, taken his carrot and laughed in his face.

I confirm it... he said it. Brady had a bad showing in his first SuperBowl, comparing it to Worthlessburger's. Before he opened his mouth and said that, I actually had some respect for the guy.

No idea why he would have used Brady as an example. Actually the one "famous" QB performance I can remember that was almost as bad as Roethlisberger's was Elway's first SB win. That would have been a decent comparison.

I swear to God, Brady will be MVP next year... Where can I place that bet, anyway???
