Ian's Daily Blog - After reading some recent posts on the messageboard about having head coach Bill Belichick calling former Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe out of retirement to take over for Matt Cassel, I decided to take a moment to see what I could find on YouTube.com on Bledsoe.* I’m a Bledsoe appreciator who enjoyed the great run the [...]

Anyone with a brain would pick Bledsoe over Cassel.

Drew Bledsoe Statistics - Pro-Football-Reference.com

22 maybe if you could skip 21 and 23. 24 and 25 maybe, but by 26 - which is what Cassel is now, he was on the downslope already.

For the money, I'd pass. That guy can't play in this league in 2008, nor could he ever play for Belichick.

I know some of you will think that meanspirited. I don't start Drew threads though.

Ye Gads, will you Bledsoe Haters get a life. You should have had to watch Mike Taliaferro, and the many QB's between him and Bledsoe. Then maybe you could appreciate the good things he did.

He may not be as good as Brady but he was better than most all the other QB's this franchise has had and does not deserve the continued vilification on this website.

Jeesshhh!!!

Anyone with a mouse brain would pick Bledsoe over Cassel.

Fixed your post for you.

My ignore list is getting pretty full. I have decided that it's better to ignore than to take a hiatus from the forum.

Man, 5 different receivers with 50 catches. Still impressive.

bledsoe = solid NFL starter for what 10 years??
cassel = chummppp

easy choice, not sure your suprising anyone with that pick

Ahh good video. Makes me miss Ben Coates :(

But yea, there are a good amount of Bledsoe bashers, but he really did have a solid arm. IMO he was just a few tools short of being one of the 'all time greats'. I'd take a 22 year old Bledsoe in a second over Cassel, heck i'd take a 22 year old Bledsoe over a majority of the QB's in the NFL right now

Bledsoe is, was,(still is) and always will be better than Casell.

I wonder if Bledsoe would have responded positively to BB's coaching from the start. If it may have changed his career.

Anyways, Bledsoe did a lot of good for the Patriots, and he also was a good QB. All time great? No.

Just check out the Buxom Bosom theory by CHFF.

It must have taken guts to make such a controversial statement. ;)

It really is sad some people can't appreciate one without demonizing others.

My fondest memory was Bledsoe playing down the stretch with a broken finger on his passing hand.

Oh, and I certainly do remember Mike Taliaferro (Joe Kapp et al). He was the QB in the first game I noted in that thread. 31-0 loss might be why I didn't remember anything.

I've never understood some of the trashing Drew Bledsoe gets from a lot of Patriots fans. He did a LOT for the New England Patriots franchise. With Bledsoe at the helm, the Pats became a respectable team again. And for many years, Drew carried the offense. Was he as great as Tom Brady? Absolutely not, but that doesn't mean he didn't contribute a great deal to the team in his own ways. He was a a really classy, tough guy too.

i agree with you and i consider him after Tom Brady the best qb in our franchise history

I suspect he gets credit later in his career for keeping the Patriots out of the Super Bowl prior to Brady's arrival (one SB and a loss in his career before Brady). Not a logical conclusion, nor does Brady's success as a QB require you trash the guy who made you hope when he was drafted that the Patriots could be more than a lousy team and then actually helped to make the team a credible threat.

He wasn't great, but he was very good. And he was a true starting QB in the NFL on decent teams for most of his career so obviously not a fair comparison to Cassel.
