Yankees 13 year playoff streak will end this year.

With the Sox win today, that puts our magic # on the Yankees @ 1.

Tonight just also happens to be the final game ever at Yankee stadium and with a loss the Yankees officially eliminate themselves from playoff contention for the first time in 13 years.

What a devastatingly crushing closing to Yankee Stadium that would be for the fans tonight, let's go O's!

I can't see how you can blame this year on Girardi either. Cashman is the one who has botched the whole Joba thing, and they came out yesterday and said that they are going to start him in the bullpen again NEXT YEAR! Why not use the entire offf-season and then Spring Training to get him stretched out, I just don't understand it.

The Yankees should look very different next year:

The Gambino has a club option for 2009, I doubt they will pick it up
Abreu's contract is done
Andy Petitie's contract is done (although I could see them bringing him back)
Mussina and Pavano's contracts are also done.

So basically the Yankees need an entire starting rotation:

Assuming Wong is healthy, they still need 4 more starters, I can see them breaking the bank for CC Sabbathia, the other interesting FA pitchers will be A.J. Burnett (has an "opt out: option), John Garland, Ben Sheets.

So either way the Yankees are still saddled with enourmous contract of gay-rod, jeter, damon and posada.

The issue with Joba, as is the case with any young starting pitcher, is innings per season, and not necessarily being "stretched out" in a per start basis. The rule of thumb is that you increase a young pitchers innings by 30 each year. It's part of the modern era babying process for arms. The thinking is that you put Joba in the pen, until you reach a point in the regular season, where X amount of starts remain, and therefore, a calculated amount of innings will be met. If he threw 150 this year as a career high, then his limit would be 180 next year. If he starts a full season and remains healthy, it'd be over 200 innings. So that's where the innings limitations & starting in the bullpen come into effect.

Next years team will look different. They can go a number of different directions, depending on how free agents play. CC is tops on their list for sure. We'll see. The Yanks have some significant talent in the minors, so some trades could also be possible.

Crushing alright. Wow, they didn't make the playoffs. I'm not sure how us Yankees fans will live another day! Afterall, my life ended when Brady tore up his knee. This is actually my ghost that's typing at my keyboard.

Crushing in the context of sports, don't be a wise ass. Also the comment refereed to the possibility of being eliminated from the playoffs at your historic stadiums finale. Any fan would tell you that'd be a crushing feeling.

this thread is moronic. the lead is down to 5 in the lose column and the twins are now tied with the sox in the loss column for the wildcard. i love to **** on the Yankee's but people should wait till its officially over so they dont make a ass of themselves.

Wow, that was dumb.

Ahahahahahaahahahahahahaha Yankees! BYE BYE

Watching the Sox celebrate now. You think we're gonna have the MADD mothers complaining about the Sox celebrating with beer and champagne again?

Maybe some yahoo fan without a life would. Tell me how you feel if the Patriots don't make it this year, since it's a significant possibility that they won't. I'll still be at work on the Monday after, how about you?

Again, either your reading comprehension isn't up to par or you're just trying not to use logic.

Crushing in the context of sports. Of course you'll continue to live your day-to-day life, this is obvious. You are stating this as if anyone questioned the fact. Going on tangents that have nothing to do with the subject at hand is a tad alarming.

Being crushed a sports fan doesn't equate to being crushed as a human being, yet you're actually like those are inseparable.

My reading comprehension is just fine thank you. Forgive me for thinking that sporting events can have an actual affect on people's lives. I guess that's where I went wrong. So being "crushed", really doesn't mean feeling "crushed" in real life. I get it I think.
