Favre stating he could have been on the Pats if he had been more patient.

I agree. All im seeing with Matt having led us to 2 wins is that Toms a system QB. Sorry but WTF is a system QB? Does a system throw, make reads, scramble etc? Its just about the dumbest thing Ive ever heard

A "System QB" is a an excuse Fans use to slam a QB that they don't like -That's it, Bottom line, end of story.

I really question if the Patriots would have wanted Favre given his habits; he's not about to change. That's apart from the cap hit.

Maybe being mentored by a legend would have helped Favre like it will Cassel.

I'll stick with Matt Cassel thanks. Lord Favrequad can stick with Ratgeni and the Rats.

what about the money?

favre is highly overrated -- he's not working any miracles w/the jets.

Well, He did beat the Dolphins.

Don't flatter yourself Favre, Cassel would STILL be starting for the Patriots regardless if you were still in GB looking for a trade.

Ha! Very dramatic possibility that's as much of an unlikely scenario for the Belichick-coached Pats as I've ever heard.

I'll stick with Cassel, thank you. He's the future, understands the system, and now enables the focus to be on all aspects of this very deep and balanced team. They'll rise to this.

Fun to think about, however, but the Pats with Favre as QB likely would have become a nightmare in reality.

Favre is reckless. He doesn't think about INT at all when he throws. He is a INT leader.
reminds me of fouts, but more arrogant

fouts didn't give a crap either, just throw it between 4 defenders

they get pounded by san diego, and 'fans' are throwing batteries at him by the 4th quarter of an arizona beating.
he talks about possible retirement during the bye week in a tearful presser.

I don't think Favre could ever be on a team coached by Bill Belichick. Their philosophies when it comes to football are almost the exact opposite.

I know people here like to bash guys like Favre, but I love it when the players tell us what they are really thinking. I'm sure Favre is happy to be a starter in New York, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's cussed a few times and thrown a few objects around thinking about how he could have been a Patriot and gone out with a Super Bowl ring.

That must be real comforting for the Jets.

Paying him all that money so he can regret not waiting until Brady got injured. lol

I can think of several reasons why Favre would not have been a QB in NE, even if he was available after Brady’s injury…..

1) He’s a gunslinger who throws it up there too often and gets picked off.
2) He talks to the press WAY too much for Belichick’s liking. Witness the dustup with Coles over Pennington that played out in the press. When have you ever seen a Patriots player in recent memory (other than Branch or Samuel) go to the media?

3) Would he be willing or able to come in and learn a new system ( i.e. watch film and study) to Belichick’s liking.
4) Would he be willing to set aside the “I’m the star” mentality to be one of 53…..
I think the coaching staff would have concluding (much to the dismay of this board) that Cassel was the team's best option even if Brett were available, despite what he thinks.

The Patriots gladly took on Moss. They took on Dillon. They kept Law around. They'd gladly have taken on Favre.

Those two were not responsible for runing the Belichick philosophy offense on the field. A major difference in my and I'll bet BB's view. See Bledsoe, Drew.

I would have loved to have seen it just because I love it when interesting stuff happens, and wouldn't it be wild to have Favre as the Pats QB right now? Good or bad, it would have been all-consuming.

Yeah that would have been fun, but I don't know. In a way, Favre second guessing himself publicly about signing with the Jets is fun enough for me. In a way, it's even more fun for the unabashed, schadenfreude factor.

Secondly, Favre would have had to convince BB that despite his recent disavowal he really would study film and execute the plays as designed vs 'just slinging it' Favre and Bledsoe style, which is anathema to BB. NFW.

Exactly. BB would never have put him on the field in 3 or 4 weeks and knowing his work ethic off the field, ahahaha.

No.

The Livewire stuff would have to be all beeps.

Brett, the Patriots and their Feelings

This is just the PERFECT illustration for anyone who is interested in what makes the New England Patriots different from other teams.

When Brady is injured, the Patriots make it clear at once that they have made their decision. Matt Cassel is the quarterback. Of course, they are sorry for Tom but there is nothing to be said. There will be no second guessing. In fact, we will put Chris Simms and Tim Rattay back on the plane in case anyone thinks we're not wholly committed to Matt. No one will say anything in public to suggest a scintilla of doubt.

This goes together with a general media policy in which no player will go on the radio to discuss his "feelings" -- if they're asked stupid questions about their feelings ("How did you feel when David Tyree made his catch?" "How did you feel when Tom Brady was injured?") they will under all circumstances resist the urge to reply "How the f*ck do you think I felt, you moron?" and repeat that those events are in the past and now they are looking forward to new challenges. If that makes journalists in Miami or wherever describe them as robots, zombies or cult members, well that's just too bad ...

The Jets, on the other hand, allow Brett to say whatever he likes to the media. Brett, apparently, has never seen a microphone he didn't like and his "feelings" are deep and sensitive enough to make Oprah cry. Apart from Brett's feelings, there are also Laveranues Coles' feelings to consider. The New York press is very concerned about them too. There are apparently a lot of "feelings" in New York.

Brett also seems to have failed to realize that leadership requires loyalty. If anyone can see Matt Cassel's weaknesses it is Bill Belichick. But Matt knows that, just as surely as he will get shouted at on the practice field and called out in meetings, Bill will never ever be anything but respectful of his professionalism and commitment in public. Bill has made a decision. Whether it was the right decision or the wrong decision, who knows?

Brett too has made a decision. Perhaps it was a mistake. But does he have the grace to shut up and live with the consequences? No, he runs to the first microphone he can find to second-guess himself in public. That is self-indulgent and disrespectful of his new team-mates beyond belief. If you want a simple illustration of why Brett hasn't got the faintest idea of what it would mean to do things "the Patriots way", it's right there.

BB would never take him. He doesn't study and follow the offense.

No, not really. This is TB's team and if Favre came he would make it his own. Cassell has been with the team for a while and is not a "superstar" like Favre so even if the PATS win the SB with Cassell - its ok but if they won it with Favre as QB - I would not like it. This is Brady's team and Farve shouldn't be able to come one year and get a SBowl ring courtesy of a team that has been lead by Brady......

I was saying that Favre going to the Pats would have been one of the biggest soap operas in NFL history. I don't know what that has to do with this being Brady's team.
