Don banks doesnt understand why BB was stoic

oddly he is from the boston area and more close to the patriots than others...

Well that explains things right there. Boston local media is T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E.

What I find really funny is that Banks assumes that it's an act that he's putting on. Did it even occur to him that maybe Bill's just like that, and maybe that's part of why he's an awesome coach?

Banks is off the mark..I still wish to know from him MORE about his predictoon of a Brady injury and if he had heard anything in the offseason..

Don Banks is one of the guys who has praised the whole team first and no one player is bigger than the team mentality of the Pats in the past. Now he is criticizing Belichick from not breaking script when Brady went down.

What did he want him to say? "Oh crap, we're screwed!"? I love that this team is approaching this as "We are sorry for Tom and he will be missed, but we have 15 more games to go. Time for others to step up".

I totally disagree that Belichick admitting this is the toughest challenge is going to rally the troops. He is going to turn up the disrespect card instead. He is going to tell his team, "See no one thinks you can win without Tom. They don't think the defense is good enough. They don't think the rest of the offense is good enough."

Banks lives in Brookline and sees how this team operates more than most national guys. I am surprised he would say this.

I can't tell you how many times coaches the media fawn over and dub players coaches take public shots whether obviously or subtley at those same players. Drives the media nuts that they can never get Bill to do that, on or <wink wink> off the record. Same way he won't sob and kvetch about an injury or it's impact only to hint a later that the players job may be in question going forward because of injury concerns. Bill protects his players, does what's best for his team, and doesn't give a rats ass what outsiders or media think about him as a result.

I was watching the Panthers Chargers game the other night and rooting like crazy for Delhomme to somehow pull a miracle out of his ass because I can't stand the Chargers. Yet there is something disconcerting to seeing a HC run accross the field waving his arms and beaming after his team just mismanaged the clock and that final drive so badly they honestly didn't deserve to win... Fox said afterward, still shaking with emotion, that great players make great plays... Bill would have said it wasn't pretty and there were lots of corrections to be made by players and coaches next week because you're not going to win often playing like that, but a win is a win so of course it's good to win.

That's long been the reason we get better while former combatants like the Panthers annually flounder while their media toadies make excuses for them and remind us how in spite of that they're such good players or great coaches...

LOL @ Don Banks thinking that coaching the NFL is the same as being a wife on the sidelines and LOL at media making shi*t up. Man's gotta steer the ship and you don't steer the ship by crapping the bed when your best player goes down. So stupid.

i actually dont think BB does this anymore. his players have enough leadership to manage expectations. he just asks them to do their job.

Don Banks doesn't understand BB's stoicism because he doesn't understand BB. "No one player is greater than this team" I think is how that goes. It's hard to imagine BB includes Brady in that brushstroke but honestly-I bet he does. Who knows what goes on under the Hoodie. Don Banks sure doesn't ;)

Leadership starts at the top. If you want to enable a group and give them a reason to quit and a reason to feel sorry for themselves then you should just listen to Banks.

I think Belichick still plays the disrespect card. He may not hammer it in as much as he used to because he has plenty of leaders to convey the message, but Belichick is the master motivator and will do whatever he needs to get the team motivated. The disrespect card works. Last year's run had a lot of the disrespect card fueling it.

I think the article is a bit silly.

But I don't think any of us knows yet whether BB's approach will "work" or is the best. I'm not even sure that BB was as calculating as much of this thread suggests. He just is who he is. I think the notion that there's exactly one way to do things is a bit silly.

He actually did seem a bit more stoic to me than I expected. Not that I wanted him to get weepy or anything or appear to panic, but I thought maybe a bit softer. No big deal. He is who he is.

Does Banks really think that BB wasn't hurting inside by this development? Of course BB was stung by it just like players and fans were. Everybody reacts differently though. For some it's easier to hide their emotions than it is to wear them on their sleaves. I would rather have a coach who is composed than one who is an emotional wreck. This is the time to be strong.

banks is upset that BB didnt do what banks would have done if he were head coach. ie start maknig excuses just in case the season doesnt work out.

the difference with BB and most of these writers....BB is one of the best at what he does, these losers cant understand a man like that. i doubt steinbeck or hemingway would have complained about bb's behavoir. they would admire him...the writers just want to drag him down closer to them

even cris carter was yelling on monday that how easy it is for the coach to say that everyone has to do their jobs etc etc. same old crap

Don Banks is 150% wrong. Does the team really need him to remind them how important Brady is? And I'm sure it would have inspired the team if he collapsed to the groung bawling about hoe the season is over. This criticism is ridiculous. He wouldn't be Belichick if he didn't handle it exactly the way he did.

Absolutely. This article is one the dumbest things I have ever read. Firstly, this guy has no clue what was said to the team in private. BB has never talked publicly about what he says to the team privately and he sure as hell isn't going to start now. Plus, by making a huge deal out of it, when these grown men know damn well how big a deal it is anyway, might also serve to trigger the "Holy ****, we are really in trouble if coach is this worked up about it" panic button.

So STFU Don Banks. You are truly an idiot.

I guess that's why BB actually coaches a highly succesful NFL team and Don Banks just writes about it

BB today presser

Q: Having a significant injury like this one, making adaptations on the field and moving forward. Has this been the hardest one for you yet?

BB: I don't know. It is hard to rank them. Tom [Brady] is a great player for us—don't get me wrong. He's responsible for a lot of the success that we've had around here but at the same time, as a coach you take the hand that is dealt to you and you try to play it as best as you can. That's really what you do on a weekly basis. You don't sit around and worry about, what could have been or what [if] this or what [if] that. You look at what you have, you look at what they have, which you don't know as well, but you have to try and figure [it] out, and then you deal with that. That is really what a coach's job is. That's the way I look at it.

The media would be a lot happier if they just accepted him for who he is. He is not going to give them what they are looking for and writing stupid articles about it isn't going to make it any likelier to happen.
