Neck injuries are no joke for linebackers. Space players can kind of take there heads out of a lot of contact but the whole filling gaps thing requires a lot of violent contact.

The issue here seems to be that some interpret "active" to mean "healthy". Hightowers escalating snap count before injury shows a clear plan for him recovering to full game shape.
