Patriots trading Richard Seymour to the Raiders!!!

I admit I am conflicted about this. Is this good value for a player in his final year when we are in contract hell? Yes. Is the defence better today than it was with RS? No. The Patriots have always succeeded by picking long term value over short term measures so I guess the trade is a good...

Reduced NEP coverage? No more Reiss?

I suspect he could move up rather than down. Schefter was a Denver beat writer until the NFL network picked him up and look where he is now. Reiss is a very good journalist and could probably get a good salary from a national organisation. It would be a shame to lose him. he's the last of the...

    The Pats are in trouble

I'd have loved it if they could have drafted the next Tippett but I didn't see anyone like that in this draft. Most of the top pass rushers were conversion projects who would have had to learn the system and could have taken a year+ to contribute. BB also made it clear he did not like the...

BB praises his OLB'S (CRABLE, REDD, WOODS)

Re: BB praises his OLB'S (CRABLE, REDD,WOODS) Personally I never liked Barwin that high in the draft: he looks like he could need 2+ years to adapt to the Pats' system. If he had been around in the 3rd that would have been fine. The Texans have a very different system so he could be a great...

    An Innocent Question...

My guess is that Brace is seen as a serious contributor who they hope will sub in for Wilfork on a few plays and if they are lucky will develop into a real alternative if Wilfork's contract doesn't work out. Pryor looks more like a player they want to have a look at in camp and they will let...

Odds of the Pats signing Jason Taylor?

My personal theory (based on a variety of imaginary sources and voices in my haed) is that Taylor doesn't want to work out and the Patriots don't want to be seen to tolerate that so they have arranged to sign him as late as possible.

    Chargers preparing to cut LT??

I'd have no interest in him unless he took a big pay cut (not much chance of that). Faulk does the same things in the passing and screen game and LDT (there is only one LT) isn't going to be an every down back in our system.

Super Bowl XLIII - who ya got?

I agree with DTunafan. I expect Pittsburgh to win but I can see how the Cards could do it. The Steelers offence really isn't very good and Big Ben can be played the way they handled McNabb - make him hold the ball too long and make mistakes. OTOH the Steelers defence is a really dominant one and...

Wow. Meeks out in Indy. [merged]

Re: Wow. Meeks out in Indy. This makes sense, Meeks was Dungy's guy. Caldwell has to build up his own staff. I wonder will this signal a change of strategy from spending the money on offence and making do on defence?

Warner and McNabb: Hall of Fame??

Warner is closer than McNabb. He has a ring and has led two different teams to the superbowl. He also has a fantastic personal story which makes a big difference when journalists are voting. The knock on him will be his lack of records (due to a lat starting career) and his tendency to get...

    Bucs fire Gruden

Florio is speculating that Shanahan is a likely target - given the firing of the GM that seems very possible. His offence is a west coast system so there would be no huge change. I don't rate Gruden very highly. He won with Dungy's players and rode Kiffen's defence for the last few years. He...

Gruden gone - Shanahn to Bucs?

We may be playing a very different Bucs next year. Florio is reporting that the Bucs have fired John Gruden and their GM. His suspicion is that Shanahan is being lined up once the Rooney rule formalities are ironed out. I can't say I'll miss Chucky. He's an odious twerp who won with someone...

A "patriots type player" master list for the 2009 draft

What about Asher Allen (CB Georgia)? He's an undersized corner with good coverage skills and can return kicks (IE a prototype Pats corner). He is also a Junior so should be around late in the second round or even the third. I haven't seen much of him and don't know anything about chracter etc...

Forbes: The 10 Most Valuable Teams in Sports (Patriots #4)

Nice list but I have no idea how they calculated it (or if they did). Real Madrid are a members club - they can't be bought - so how are they valued? Patriot's placing looks about right though - an amazing turnaround from the early 1990s.

Good chance Bradford & Sanchez stay in school - Great news for Cassel trade value

From what I saw of Sanchez he has really high potential but needs coaching. If I was a team that needed a QB I would consider drafting him but signing Warner as a FA to cover this season. I think this makes most sense for a team like KC or Detroit that isn't expected to win this year. If I need...
