I believe Gruden was saying it is hard to find a better replacement coach than Marvin Lewis. In other words, he claimed the next coach they bring in is likely going to be worse.
So recently, my Mother has expressed an interest in learning more about football, so I have been teaching her. She has been watching since the 70s, but she has never has dived into things enough to understand football strategy. Early this week, I showed her this play from the ATL game, to...
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know I am thankful for everyone's participation in these threads! I have been rather busy with family these last couple weeks, so I will need to catch up on the re-watching.
I will link to some sources to get us started on film-based discussion and...
I agreed with everything in your post, but there were a few things I wanted to comment on.
I share your same academic interest in the Patriots at all three scales of analysis you mention (per-play strategy, game-level decision making, season level GM strategy). It is probably why we tend to...
I agree it makes sense to care about the cap just as much as it makes sense to care about any other aspect of the team. But I doubt many care about the cap for its own sake; instead, they realize that managing the cap it necessary for achieving long term success. From the perspective of team...
First off, thank you for nice posts. I think you are wrong in some aspects, but you argued your point in constructive way that lends itself to discussion. I do think considering player's projected value-added vs. cost like you suggest can be helpful.
1. Dwayne Allen's current salary is a sunk...
In case others are interested in the idea that Lewis and White might have different skill sets:
Bill Belichick compares Dion Lewis to Danny Woodhead, James White to Shane Vereen
I apologize for being condescending in this or previous posts. It is not intentional. Perhaps I was frustrated by the perceived condescending nature of Deus' posts I was responding to.
I do think it is funny that you are accusing me of being condensing, considering the tone you generally take...
Going 5 wide out of 21 and 12 personnel is a reoccurring method we use to exploit defensive match-ups. IMO, Dion Lewis has not shown the slot-receiver route running capacity of Burkhead or White. Lining up in the slot is an important RB skill on our team. You don't call Gronk a WR when he is...
Once we were up 4 scores they become low leverage. There was no reason to overuse Gronk simply to achieve a more impressive margin of victory. I also think we started calling vanilla offensive plays for a similar reason.
This covers all of the plays in your write-up besides the kick return, since that was already posted.
I don't think the Mason on the 3rd and 4 Draw play was a run key thing, since Andrews fires off past the LOS. Actually, Andrews might have been the key for the DT to back up diagonally...
I was able to make this. I am not sure if it shows what you are looking for. Maybe @Tony2046 can do the all-22 if it does not. The broadcast did not show any more wide scope pre-snap.
I agree, the protection stuff is super confusing. I think that is true for any system. I originally just said "73 sets the protection" has a hand wave because the rest of the play call is much more understandable to me. I included the other two OB videos but not this one for the same reason. But...
