Just because your mother swam out to troops ships and took on a thousand men at a time -- syphilitic and gonorrheatic and God knows what else -- doesn't make her a bad person. Necessarily. She was probably raped by your grand-father when she was ten -- maybe 5, who knows??? Or maybe her uncle got her behind the barn; again, who knows?? These things happen.
