Denver trades Foxworth to the Falcons

Eh, he was a pipe dream for us at best. I'm at least feeling content now with our corps of Hobbs, Wheatley, Wilhite, and O'Neal. I'm not overly pleased but just... content.

That's a very good deal for Atlanta!

Now, not only is Denver's "pass rush" suspect, but they've gotten rid of their best nickel back.

And for what?

A 7th rounder!!!!

But its a high 7th rounder. Practically a 6th.

What ever happened to Dante Wesley or did he suck and get cut last year?

Another thing that surprises me is that the Pats did not try and grab Travis Daniels from the Dolphins before Cleveland landed him in a deal

That suprised me as well. The only thing that I think stopped the Pats are the injury concerns. Guy is loaded with talent and his a ballhawk as well as a hard hitter. The only bad thing is that he's oft-injured.

I have no info regarding Dyson,Fred Thomas or Kelly Herndon - Are they still on the market or are they injured?

No clue actually. All I knew of was Travis Daniels and how bad I wanted the Pats to sign him. I'm sure someone else around here much more up on the free agent maket than I am knows.

To my knowledge all three of those players did not attend training camp for any team this season and are all still unsigned.

Is it me, or has shanahan completely lost it. I see a 4-12 year for the bronco's

Wow. Disappointing we couldn't have made more of a run at him. I gladly would have given up a 6th round pick to bring him in.

Probably a numbers game. We have five CBs already, and BB might not have rated Foxworth any higher than Sanders. A 6th rounder is nothing special, but spending it on a lateral move wouldn't make much sense either.

It would be like trading a 6th rounder for another teams 3rd running back right now. Probably a good value for the player, but is it necessary given our situation?

Or it could be this, why only a conditional pick between 5th and 7th Rd:

FROM MIKE KLIS OF THE DENVER POST… Broncos nickel back Domonique Foxworth was told this morning that the Broncos were about to trade him. Foxworth did not attend practice today. “I wish the Broncos and Mike Shanahan and Pat Bowlen well,” Foxworth said. “I appreciate the time they gave me here. But if they feel it’s time for me to move on, then I have to move on. I’m fine with it.” Foxworth had been a part-time starter and nickle back each of his first three seasons with the Broncos. However, he had a particularly tough preseason game Friday against Arizona. Meanwhile, rookie Jack Williams had two interceptions during the preseason. Karl Paymah will now be the nickle back, with Williams moving up to dime back.
I watched Foxworth all summer and if the Broncos can get a team to take him for a trade, my hat is off to them. I cannot find a tape where Foxworth covered anyone. In fact, he was the target of many big plays. Foxworth is not an effective zone or man coverage player and he will struggle to tackle as a safety. The Broncos love Karl Paymah and are in the process of trying to extend his contract right now. Had he not played badly in the last preseason game, he could have been the starter this week against the Raiders. Dre Bly is a concern for the Broncos as a starter and the fact that as a team they allowed almost a 70% completion percentage this summer reveals the weakness of their secondary. Bly will be a key point of opponents’ emphasis in game plans as he struggles with deep balls and speed. The Broncos corners are vulnerable the way they play their front.

I have Denver going in the tank big time this year. Shanny fired his coordinators routinely and this past year he fired the GM! Its all up to him now, and with Cutler's health problems, Marshall's psychy, and a problem with the run D I have them drafting in the top 4 spots next April.

What else you got. Give us your other predictions, maybe we can win some $$.

So why did they trade a middle-aged mustachioed comedian to the Falcons? I didn't even know the dude could play football.

Oh. Wait. I read that too fast. Never mind.

;)
