Reiss: Chad Jackson released

Gaffney would replace either Moss or Welker and Jackson would have stepped up to #3. I am not convinced Washington is the guy who can do it. I wasn't sure if Jackson could either, but his talent upside was greater.

When you start asking these types of questions, Chris Henry suddenly looks a lot better.

Agreed. There really is no good option for replacing Moss or Welker, unless you clone them ;)

2001-2004 with NE:

54 Games, 165 rec (3/g), 2513 yards (46.5/g)

2005-2007 with Was/NO

30 Games, 77 rec (2.57/g), 1034 yards (34.5/g)

He's been ok for New Orleans, but his overall body of work hasn't been quite the same and he's had injury troubles. Fact remains, I don't think they regret losing him, except maybe when Branch pulled his shenanigans.

He didn't fit in to well in Washington but he is doing good in New Orleans. Maybe you should do the numbers again taking out his time in washington and just compare time on pats to time on Saints.

but your overall point is valid for the most part the WR they have let go have not excelled else where for various reasons. Chad Jack will be interesting to watch as he still so young and we can all agree has the atributes. Interesting this is pretty much the case for most positions and not just Wide out. We have some real good talent evaluators.

Chris Henry's numbers in Cincy are not enough better than Washingtons to make me want his baggage, I'll stick with Washington.

How are these not legitimate questions to be concerned with especially since the status of Welker is still unknown. The #4 WR is still a significant position and injuries are part of the game. It is a concern, but not one of the bigger concerns.

It is a bigger issue than the #2 QB on this team, but it hasn't stopped people from debating that all summer. The #4 WR is expected to contribute every game. The #2 QB isn't.

I wouldn't touch Henry just because of the douche and suspension factor.

By no means was I intending to belittle your questions. Almost the opposite, in fact. My point was that suddenly Henry's past isn't so shady when you realize how perilous the Patriots success is. One injury to Moss/Welker/Brady, and things change dramatically.

How the f*** does Matt Cassel make the team but not Chad Jackson? They could have given him one more year to do something. What a waste of a pick! Could have had Greg Jennings and someone else. Way to move up for someone in draft, only to give up on them so soon. Sometimes the Pats moves really irritate the s*** out of me. And the John Lynch signing turned out to be pointless. Nobody should call Jackson a bust, the Pats are the real bust. It wasn't Jackson's fault the Pats were dumb enough to trade up for him. How does one team become so high on a player saying he was so good with us on the "whiteboard" but then pulls a 180 after being drafted. Sounds like the Pats didn't do their homework on that one.

I hope Chad gets a chance with another team and tears it up and makes the Pats look stupid.

Oh ok, sorry. Sometimes though like in Henry's case, the baggage is still not worth the risk of signing him especially in the Bengals' case where they went out of their way saying a player like Henry no longer has a place on their team.

Those Florida Gator WR cursed again. It's too bad.

They did, and they meant it too!

until Chad Johnson got hurt and they needed Henry back...

They kept him and CJ to force a trade. then couldn't get one done, IMHO.

I think Jackson will be a much better player on another team. He wasn't great when he play but he didn't get a better opportunity to prove himself than Cassel yet Cassel wasn't cut. I guess Belichick has his reasons.

My Uncle always said Chad Jackson = Bethel Johnson until proven otherwise.

That comparison is unfair to Bethel Johnson. Bethel was actually slightly productive and he made some clutch plays every now and then (TD's vs. Colts and Titans come to mind).

Again..... Jackson produced more than Johnson. He simply had fewer years to accumulate the numbers. Go look at NFL.com and compare career stats.

I just KNEW there would be something worth checking before rushing off to the aiport this morning. Wow.

I would argue that those two plays by Bethel, the kick return vs. Indy and the long TD catch against the Titans, are more valuable than Chad Jackson's entire career.

Bethel's catch in the Seattle regular season game, and his catch in the Titans playoff game > any catch Jackson ever made in the NFL.

I bet C-Jack lands in Cinci... they've been open about their need to add receivers.

Great. Argue away. I was talking production. Arguing "career" about a player who's really only played as a rookie is silly. The fact that even the raw production numbers are close shows just how little Johnson actually did. Jackson has been an All-Pro by comparison.

i was expecting him to make the team but he did not show much promise.

Tells me two things really is all....

1) Welker is not as bad as I feared.

2) Expect a decent signing in the next day or so......

OKAY perhaps three.

3) We can officially end the Chad Jack era and stop worrying if the guy is gonna be a bust......... and just call it like it is.

HE'S A BUST
