Wes Welker back at practice
Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
August 31, 2008 03:37 PM

Wide receiver Wes Welker, who was knocked out of the Patriots' third preseason game with a rib injury, returned to practice today.

Welker was present for the media-access portion of the practice, which included stretching, agility drills and some light pass-catching.

The practice was held in shorts and shells (light shoulder pads).

It's good news. Hopefully, he's completely healthy.

Just got through reading Reiss's report on Welker and breathed a sigh of relief.

A bit concerned about the OLine though, Reiss says they were only practicing with 6 guys there.

in the same article Reiss mentions two missing OL leaving us with 6 healthy....and than speculates one of those 2 open spots might be filled by an Olinemen

I'm wondering if the team plans to experiment at all with Ventrone in the slot. He's built like Welker and has quick moves.

Wow - the news is flying fast and furious today - CJack released, Lynch released, Welker is back... will the Ty Law signing be next? Seau? Or will they wait until after game 1 to avoid the veteran full season guarantee in those cases as well?

I hope so, or at least one of the spots. This OL situation is getting more and more unnerving.

AWESOME news about Wes:rocker:

As for Lynch, I'm assuming it's an accounting move ("my time thus far"?).

Yeah, that is a good possibility. That's why I mentioned the vet full season guarantee, since the same reasoning may apply to Law and Jr. also.

Welker was the best news of all. The Pats will probably re-sign

Flynn, Welbourn, or both. The week is still young for possible

changes.

My post was obsolete almost immediately.

Considering they gave away Seau's locker, its unlikely he's going to be back unless there is an injury.

True, but injuries are commonplace in football. Jr. said he wants to come back, and the only team he wants to play for is the Pats.

There are still two spots open on the practice squad. The

Pats may waive a couple more players and place them on

the practice squad. Then they could re-sign Flynn and

Lynch.
