It's time for Ty Law

The irony is if the Patriots were short at safety I think they might have considered Law. He is a hard hitting db who may have transitioned to safety well if he had lost too much of his step when it to CB pass coverage. The fact that the team is set at safety makes this discussion academic, but I always thought he was the type of corner to make the switch eventually.

I just think he will want a ton of money...and the value may NOT be there...

It's tough to argue with that, but our CBs seem, above anything else, to be our Achilles Heel... I just hope the Jests don't pick him up... IMHO I hope He's still around after the first couple weeks of the Season, the best prudence to see what We have got so far in our own guys... Ya think there's Any chance of, say, ya know Champ Bailey getting cut? Him and Law would probably then want to sign with Us for the Vet Minimum... "To sleep perchance to Dream...No More!"

What PatJew said.

Sign Law.

I read where Law can still explode in the forty............oh wait, I mean his mid section has exploded, as he eats forty donuts a day. I misread that. My bad.

I agree with somebody else who said Hanky P. is more likely to arrive here. At least he's been practicing/playing.

Let me quote Mike Reiss from today's Globe:

http://www.boston.com/sports/footba...ots_still_are_trying_to_turn_the_corner_here/

At this point, it's a numbers-thin group, and it just might be the catalyst that leads to a reunion between the Patriots and Ty Law, arguably the top veteran free agent on the market.

The 34-year-old Law wants to play for the Patriots, and he has remained in touch with coach Bill Belichick throughout the offseason. Law, who previously visited with the Jets and spoke with the cornerback-needy Browns, predicted earlier this month he'd be with an NFL club on the opening weekend of the season.

At issue, it seems, is hammering out a contract that would work for both parties.

Law, who has fielded telephone calls from a few former Patriots teammates urging him to return, continued to weigh his options as of last night, and an agreement with an NFL club was not imminent. In previous conversations, he seemed especially motivated to prove he still can play at a high level after two largely unfulfilling years in Kansas City. Once again, he spent much of his offseason training with noted speed coach Bob Kersee.

Law won't have to do much to convince Belichick, however. Asked in March about Law, Belichick said, "I'm sure he'll play in the league this year. I don't have any doubt about that."

Yeah, but what does BB know... He's only been trying to resign this guy since the day he left.

The issue isn't can he play here, it's can he feed his family and play here. On some level while they kissed and made up I think in addition to $$$ Ty still thinks he is or can prove he has value absent this system. Milloy had that same issue. Pride goeth before the fall. If he'd swallowed his a couple of years ago we might be shooting for one for the thumb by now and he'd be a lock for the HOF. Sadly I think Ty also assumes he currently is. At some level it's that arrogance that allows corners and receivers to excell, but it's often their downfall at the mid point or tail end of a career.

Why overspend on a guy that can barely cover a #3 receiver?

These Ty Law threads are a joke. If Belichick had extra $$$ to spend I'm sure he'd make
a trade for a young OL player right about now which would help this team way more than Ty freaking Law.

If Ty Law was signed, he'd immediately become the #1 cornerback on this team;

I'm not sure why people hate him so much; He made a decision that in his <15 year career he was going to make as much as he could; BB made a decision that he wasn't going to pay people more than he thought they should. Both are now okay with their decision and don't hate each other; I'm not sure why we should hate Law for it when I bet 90% of us would do the same thing (esp. if we thought we were the best cb in the league at the time).

Anyways, Ty Law right now > Ellis Hobbs (assuming Law is in game shape).

...great Post... OR in N.E. terms, wicged friggin awwhsum Pohst. Now, though, aye gaht tah depaht, get in mahye cah and go fah tah Dahree Maht, tah get sum, well, to get a pack of smokes alright (this last part didn't fit in as well as I wanted it to 8^))

For me the situation is simple. I want another real corner. I don't think Wilhite is more than a developmental (inactive) player at this point, which is fine for a 4th rounder.

The safeties are fine. We have four instead of the usual 5-6, and they play ILB in many situations.

I am NOT comfortable with counting on Slater or Ventrone as that corner. I'd rather have Hank or Ty or Manning or the best pioli can find. The bottom line is that if Hobbs or Sanders or Wheatley goes down with an injury for a couple of games, we are royally screwed.

Priority signing for us, no doubt.

He will be able to teach the young W boys (and Ellis) a lot of football and that in and of itself would be huge.

Ty Law is among the least likely veterans of his age, ability, and long-standing savvy to be a mentor. He's too self-absorbed.

He is NOT too self-absorbed to be a fine team player. But leadership of any kind is, I think, beyond him.

Point taken. I guess I should have said "lead by example" rather than be a "mentor" in the classic sense.

I think you nailed it. I hope they can make the $$$ work.

If Reiss says there's interest on the Pats' side, I believe it's valid.

Quick thought experiment: pretend Ty Law is already on the roster, and you have to make one cut. Is he your choice? I'm guessing no.

Sure he'd be a good addition. Not an earth-shattering one, but a plus.

ditto for Hank

Go further and tell me how you would feel as the PA announcer shouts out Ty Law's name, over the roaring crowd, while he announces the starting "D"' line up when the Patriots run through the plastic helmet and onto the field?

I think it would be an awesome, wicked pissah, signing.

On here, it's always time for Ty Law. Not saying it's bad, just saying okay, well, this thread's out of the way for this offseason.

:agree::agree: We need Somebody there at CB besides who we've got, even though I like the ones we have. I just have a feeling that down the road they won't be enough. So be it Hank,Ty, or someone else who's got experience and is good, we need help at CB at some point.
