"Jesse never tested positive for a steroid or any other performance-enhancing drug," said Chatman's agent Brett Tessler in a text message to ESPN.com's Tim Graham. "Near the end of last season the league claimed he had a diuretic in his system that they said could be used as a masking agent. After spending great time and money defending his innocence, the league made its final ruling, and now Jesse has no choice but to look ahead to Week 5."
Wow, a diuretic that could be used as a masking agent gets you 4 games suspension? I suppose one needs to know what else that diuretic could be used for, but that seems a bit harsher than "tested positive for an actual drug"

Re: JEST: Chapman suspended for 4 games

The drug testing program used by the NFL is a joke. First of all, at least 50% of the NFL is taking some sort of illegal performance enhancing drugs, and the fact Goodel and co are getting all "high and mighty" about it is a joke. The NFL has a huge secret.......and if it comes out people will be running for cover. Having played ball at a d3 school, I was shocked at the drug use at that level, nevermind in the pros.

Anyone who thinks large numbers of players are not taking drugs has their head in the sand, and that includes players on our team.

Consider this your FINAL AND ONLY WARNING!

There are not many rules on patsfans.com but defending a Jets player is a serious no-no. DON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN! :D

But it's a "term of employment," not an invasion of privacy:D

:D Not defending him, just saying, aqua-ban is a diuretic, my wife has taken it for cramps (edit just got yelled at, taken it for bloating!) could that be a "masking agent" too, and could it not seriously be accidentally taken without actually improving performance? I just hate that the same thing could happen to us and we'd hear "cheater cheater" from people when there was nothing at all to show that any advantage had been gained.

and LOL at Wildo :singing:

I presume that he didn't have a legitimate prescription for it.

If he did, then this would be beyond absurd.

Again, hard to say without knowing what it was, could be prescription, in which case I 100% agree with you, but there are also diuretic "cleansers" that you can get at GNC for 'clearing ones system' which are 100% over the counter. Now, this could be a masking performance (or non performance) enhancing drug "cleaner" or it could be a "colon cleanse" diuretic. Hard telling without knowin as a friend likes to say, but the reality is, he didn't test positive for any banned (presumably performance enhancing) substance that I'm aware of, he tested positive for something that could mask the presence of a banned substance. That, to me, is on degree of separation too much for a 4 game suspension no matter how much I enjoy the psychological pains of Jets fans.

I don't know the circumstances for this particular case, but remember that this is a league that penalizes players who are taking publicly available vitamins and supplements that don't have a proscribed item on the label but put some in the item without the players' knowledge.

They are all hypocrites....I would bet about 50% of active NFL players take something illegal.

I'm no doctor but it makes sense that if you piss like a race horse perhaps there is less waste product in the pee???

Chatman tried to do the drive-thru-piss and it didn't work.

This is true for marijauna, not sure about steroids. Though drinking a ton of water would accomplish the same thing.

What does the NFL do if a player legitimately needs a prescribed diuretic? It seems like the lack of testing technology has led the NFL to create a banned substances list so complicated that players would need to hire an expert to advise them on it.

At least they get their supplements right from the manufaturer now. :D

Re: JEST: Chapman suspended for 4 games

Does that mean we get to call them "cheaters" now? :D
