I can't watch the preseason games because the Pats games don't air in Jacksonville. How did the secondary look last night? I went to NFL.com but their stats are not indicative of anything. The secondary is the area of the team that has me worried most this season. I'm able to take a breath on our LB corps because, from what I've read, they've been looking really good. Our front three are the best in the NFL, IMO. But the secondary is what I will be paying attention to when the season rolls around. Someone give me a sneak preview.

if our front three played well to their potential-which they havent so far, we wont need a great secondary..

I'm curious about this too, anybody? Wheatley is one of the most important rookies on our roster in my opinion, I'm very eager to see what he does.

I don't recall many plays where the secondary was beat down the field, no. I recall lots of completions being on crosses in front of the linebackers, and sideline outs.

No deep passes, but every time there was a need to stop a pass play on third down, David Carr, yes that David Carr, made it happen.

This was one rather surprising development, Matthew Slater is not so bad as a safety. I know he wasn't asked to do much, but the guy seemed to be in on a lot of tackles, some of them pretty strong hits.

It was all off coverage zone stuff from the one's, so who really knows. Fernando Bryant getting rag dolled was'nt that impresive.....

Fernando Bryant got completely owned by Darcy Johnson.

He basically pushed and carried Bryant 5 yards eventually getting into the endzone with no problem.

Wait I can hear the excuse: That was Belichick's plan. In the regular season, Bryant's gonna be a tackling machine ala **** Butkus.

I haven't seen one thing from Bryant that shows that it's a good idea for him to be a starting corner on this team. Unfortunately, BB and Co might thinks differently. :(

I am trying to find a video of it to start a topic here asking what people honestly though of that.

I would throw up if I ever saw him get dominated like that on a GW TD pass.

There is no excuse for that. Nothing to do with BB not scheming in the pre-season, etc. He was carried 5 yards into the endzone. I can not even express how pathetic it was to watch.

All I hear from the few Lions fans I know is that when he was not on the sidelines injured he was constantly getting burned.

That was one of the underrated parts of Asante's game, just how good of a tackler he was.

It brought back HORRIFIC memories of LT running over Monty Beisel on his way into the endzone.

Sounds like we need to take a good, long look at either Ricky Manning or Ty Law. I'd prefer the former.

There's a 100+ post thread on Manning already, and given his character issues I would most certainly prefer the latter.

Only excuse I'll give for Bryant is it's a CB tackling a TE. I mean, the first tackler (Sanders maybe?) hit him at the line of scrimmage low and pretty hard, and the guy kept trotting like it was nothing.

Still ugly to watch though.

The secondary is the only thing that really scares me this year.

I really hope I am worrying over nothing.

I'd like to say that I am not an NFL coach neither are anyone in here and even I could see that a small CB hitting a TE is a total mismatch. as for the Secondary play honestly it hasn't been bad if you realize what they were doing. Keep everything infront of you nothing deep and dont get hurt. talk to me in week 6 when we have a few real games under us.

They call it Pre-season for a reason

what had webster shown?

i didnt hear anywhere near as many bad things as i hear about bryant now..

I was concerned about the secondary before this pre-season.

If it is a total mismatch then what is going to stop other teams from doing the same thing? I have really no confidence in Bryant.

The problem is they DIDN'T gameplan matching their TE on Bryant. No one does unless you want them to run block. The reason Bryant had to try to make that play is because a safety (possibly two) missed tackles or failed to tackle him. Bryant was the last line of defense, and not an ideal one at that.

I've seen many a CB knock a tight end off of their feet. That is really not an excuse as much as it is poor tackling. Anybody who has played football knows that when you're going up against a guy who is a lot bigger and a lot stronger than you, you go for his legs.
