Sad to see him go :(,Hope he does not screw this job up - Keep those cart wheels oiled well Matt, you are looking good out there!!

Hes not gonna get cut IMO unless the team picks up a vet qb. Cassel is the best qb on the roster behind Brady.

Thats like saying that a 3 legged horse was second best to secretariat in the Kentucky Derby - Its a LONG way on the QB roster from Brady and its a grab bag that pathetically Cassel might actually stay but if my guess is correct hes a goner by Saturday

I hope Chris Simms is still available

Seriously if Cassel does not make it through the training for pushing shopping carts at Walmart, I hear theres a Country Buffet in Boston that needs a dishwasher.

Not very funny.

Not very funny seeing a 0-20 performance as an NFL QB in preseason either

Matt finally broke a record in preseason that may never be duplicated by a #2 ranked QB in NFL history ever again - Most futility to fail to drive a team into scoring position in 4 games and with many possessions to do so

And for those Bozos in here who try and defend the guy crying with excuses that he faced a starting caliber defense than the other guys at QB,Well if Brady was to go down and Cassel goes in do you think the other team would bring out the second team defense because they felt sorry for Cassel? - give me a freaking break

That is a dumb picture and a very likely wrong argument. There's very little chance Guttierez or O'Connell will be #2 and it's very unlikely Belichick will bring in a new guy who doesn't know the offense. Brady-Cassell-O'Connell.

Well they better because Gutierrez and O'Connel have never faced anything else...

Chris Simms couldn't make it on the roster of the QB/offensive guru that drafted him. What makes you think he could make it here?

I dunno who your talkin about but lets get this out there Iam not defending the play of Matt Cassel not one bit. But he is better then O'con and Gutz. Id be thrilled of the Pats picked up Chris Simms id take him over Cassel anyday.

And there is very little chance that Cassel could take an offense into the end zone in 2008 if Brady got hurt

Maybe the Arena League would be better for Cassel- Its only 50 yards long,That means he only has 1/2 the way to go at worst

Well Mo, I don't think Simms is the greatest ever for the backup role but it is coming down to Simms and Culpepper as the only real QBs who have been starters before and I really would not want Culpepper here but I am hearing that he wants to go to GB as a backup so maybe he is just about gone leaving Simms one of the few left as of now with experience, even if its not that good - its still better than the crap in NE at the backup position.

To be honest here, I would rather see Brady be protected to the hilt wearing a Suit of armour and moving around in that to protect him at the max then to have these backups try and carry the team - If Brady gets hurt, the season is over - period!

Cassel is a player who's gotten to the NFL despite not being a #1 in college, and managed to stay in the NFL for years on top of that. He deserves respect for such an accomplishment, not derision from his own team's fan base. I hope he does survive the cut so that a meal like this can be yours.

And here is what Cassel has accomplished and learned from Brady with all those 4 years in the NFL - This is one area of the team he has excelled at

No, it's not. And that's the thing all you anything's better whiners fail to acknowledge. Culpepper couldn't run this offense if his life depended on it. He can't read defenses or learn offenses. Simms hasn't been the same since his injury, not that he was much before it. And he's a little pissant whose been locked in a battle of wills with Gruden for a while now because he won't give him his job back despite the fact he can't earn it even with Garcia injured every time Gruden turns around...

If your're worried about Brady getting hurt, your ire would be better directed at the guys who line up in front of the QB... not the one who absorbed the hits for him this preseason.

Let's face it, if Brady isn't the quarterback, the Patriots as we know them, cease to exist, whether the QB is Cassell, O'Connell , or Sims. I'll put my trust in BB but I'd be fine if they just go with OConnell and Gutz and hope that neither one sees the field unless it's garbage time. And, hope that if needed, O'Connell can step up and be one of those surprise qb's who can play at the next level.

Chris Simms?

um...

Fine, you win. Let's keep Cassel.

Oh F***. I just realized something. His name's "Matt."

Pats don't have good luck with frustrated employees named "Matt." Not at all. Hell even relatively loyal employees named "Matt," come to think of it.

Sign Chris "I Got no spleen to hold me down" Simms in case of QB injury.....

Chris Sims hasn't been the same since the Big XII championship game where he pulled himself out of the game after throwing INT after INT after INT. The previous established Texas starter lost his job because of the dirty deal Mack Brown made with *the devil* father Phil, that his son (who was the #1 QB prospect out of HS at the time) would start no matter what and would not be pulled.

Even after Sims completely blew the game -- Applewhite *remember him?* damn near made a miraculous comeback. Seeing Chris Sims in a Pats uni would be hard to stomach for me. I'd rather have Applewhite back.
