Heh.

too hard to doff the vacation clothes

Why not. Strahan has suffered his share of injuries. He will make solid money annually for as long as he wants as a TV guy. He goes out on top. There's no reason for him to come back to a coach he doesn't like and a team playing in the league's toughest division.

Not surprised at all. Definitely the right decision.

Giants are in trouble. Their greatest strength has become a possible weakness. Kiwanuka will man one of the DE spots, and Tuck will too. But this hurts the OLB and DT positions, and their depth there isn't particularly fantastic. Without the pass rush, their secondary is going to be exposed quite a bit.

This is bad news when you play in the NFC East. The playoffs might be out of reach. They're still a good team, though, so you never know, but with Strahan retired, Osi out for the year, and Plaxico still nursing a foot injury... their three best players from last season are all either gone or dinged.

I wonder if winning his appeal made this decision for him.

He also had a much easier time on his side because Umenyiora was getting the attention on the other. He won't look as good without that, plus a year older, plus I doubt he's in peak football condition.

Smart move IMO.

OK, Ellie, you're up - see if you can repeat without half that DL.

He probably didn't want to give his ex wife more money.

Personally, I'm disappointed. One of my first thoughts after the SB was that I hoped the Giants would get back there this season as would the Pats. I would like to see us have the opportunity to pay them back.

I agree. The game 2 days from now will not be enough to be considered revenge.

Same.

But a complete collapse will be accepted as well.

a sensible thing to do..............he knew they(giants) would never be as lucky as they were last year so y not retire with a ring and be able to claim that he and his team beat one of the BEST TEAMS ever to have played on a football field,in the superbowl.............. attaboy strahan

Ditto. But there's no possible way we could pay them back in the same fashion unless they go 18-0 entering the Superbowl. Which won't happen. And there are serious challenges facing them for even a playoff spot now, let alone repeat. Not to mention they have the "target" on their backs, so everyone they play is marking the Giants on their calender. :D

you're kidding! I think that beating the giants in the preseason is the most important game for this team all year

I was internally pulling for this.

Yes, I am that petty.

And yes, I do think this dooms the Giants to a sub-.500 record.

Oh, and one more thing, eff New York.
:D

**** the giants they will finish last in the east

The difference between Brett Favre and Strahan is that Brett worked very hard this offseason in an attempt to return from retirement, while Strahan has been planning on starting his new TV career. This is why I honestly never expected him to come back, and it's likely a good decision for him.

Also, I've always felt Strahan liked being a personality, and thinks quite highly of himself, so I don't think he would ever have any intention of giving up his tv gig for a return to the NFL.
