Bears Release CB Ricky Manning Jr.

I know, I know... another "why don't we go after this new FA?" thread.

But this could actually be a guy we could use in the secondary. Thoughts? opinions?

Re: Ricky Manning Jr released by Bears

If I am Belichick and Kraft, I have already sent a limo on its way to Chicago to pick Ricky up

I shudder at the thought of Fernando Bryant starting at CB

Re: Ricky Manning Jr released by Bears

Ok, so the heck is Ricky Manning and if he's a first run cast-off, why are you guys stoked? Honestly, I'm curious why this one is taking off.

In other news, there will be a whole crop of one-man's-junk CB's out there today...

And even more on Saturday.

The Bears haven't been THAT good defensively lately that they would discard someone who was more than a JAG.

Also, in before the, "OMG? WHAT!? He's 5'9"! No one can play CB at 5'9"!" crowd.

That's one LONG-A$S Limo ride...

I would say no.....but that's me...maybe the Coach thinks differently...He'sagot a big mouth..and is a trouble maker off the field...and....pass.....

Manning is probably better than Bryant. Look at the stats.

Bryant 31 years old, 9 years pro, 7 INTs, played for Jax/Det
Manning 27 years old, 5 years pro, 19 INTs (including 5 in playoffs), played for Car/Chi

Manning seems to be pushed out due to the great depth on Chicago at corner.

Man-to-man corner who apparently got sick of being used as a nickelback in Chicago's Tampa 2 scheme. And the Bears got tired of overpaying their nickelback. So now he's an early cut.

He has ability, but as other posters have noted, multiple assaults on his record, which I believe makes him a suspension risk. He's already served one game.

I liked Manning coming out of college, but he played well for Carolina and they traded him. And now he's cut by the Bears. Must be more to it than meets the eye ...

Maybe he is not a team player but neither was Corey Dillon,Randy Moss....

I think it was the Bears signed him to an RFA offer sheet and the Panthers didn't match. Panthers got a 3rd rounder, Manning got 4 years, $21 million or so.

This was during the time when Manning was in court for beating someone unconscious after catching them working on a laptop at 3 am at a Denny's.

He's an instant upgrade over Bryant, I'm all for it.

I have a very hard time picturing Mr. Kraft sending his limo to pick up a CB convicted of multiple assaults including one where we was shouting Anti Semitic statements at the man he and his buddy Maurice Jones Drew beat unconcious.

Someone doing some work away from the office. Manning needed help from Maurice Jones Drew to handle an over-worked acountant.

Didn't Meriweather beat up some guy on the field in college after a game?

This team does not exactly worry about morals or what a player has done previously anymore, its about getting him on the team and see if he can change his ways to being a team player, become a good citizen and contribute to winning games all at the same time.

The goody two shoes Patriots who only wanted guys with perfect pasts have long gone about 3 years ago - Its all about winning now and if an ex-convict can help then so be it as long as he does not resort to being a 'bad guy' again once on the team and if he does, they simply cut his ass

Now an in game fight (even one that out of control) is the same as 3 football players beating an innocent bystander unconcious at 3 am in a Denny's because he was Jewish?

I may be wrong but I would suspect Mr. Kraft might feel a little more strongly about the second one.
