Re: Patriots roster moves

Neal can come back this year, O'Callaghan can't.

Yea, I was saying O'Callaghan was out for the year, not that Neal was gone for the year, hence my starting the sentence with "No" in response to the poster asking if it meant Neal was out for the year.

Re: Patriots roster moves

reserve physically unable season ending for neal??

No. Reserve/PUP = out the first 6 games before he can start practicing. Then 3 weeks to either IR him or activate him.

Re: Patriots roster moves

i thought he was alredy on the pup whats the difference/

The difference is that on the CAMP/PUP - he can return at any point prior to the start of the season. Reserve/PUP - He must wait a minimum of 6 weeks before he can start to practice.

My bad -- I thought I was replying to other other question. Sorry bout that.

Re: Stephen Neal to Reserve/PUP, O'Callaghan to IR, Webster, Eckel, and Wendell relea

Does anyone know if PUP is the first six weeks of the season or first six team games?

I ask because the only part of having a crappy Week 4 bye is that it if PUP is six weeks (and not games) the Pats only miss Neal for five games instead of six.

So, I guess this means some of these new linemen may be safe for the time being. Yikes.

They're just updating him to the regular season PUP list. He was previously on what is basically the training camp version of the list. It's good news in that he could return later in the season, but it's also bad news that he's not healthy enough to come off the PUP all together, and will have to miss some games.

Re: Patriots roster moves

No real surprises here. We all knew Eckel was doomed. Webster couldn't get on the field. Wendell was a long shot the day he signed.

Not necessarily, though Welbourne looks to have a shot. I think they may risk SOME lack of depth (based partly on Neal's return) to keep someone like Slater or Ventrone around longer.

Interesting that Ross' name is not included any place on this list (Cut, IR, PUP). Might he be close to returning, or are they negotiating a IR/buyout deal?

It's my understanding that it is six weeks, not six games.

EDIT. That's my goof--just double-checked. Pats1 is correct--six games.

Team's first six games.

Re: Patriots roster moves

I'm assuming Neal is really close, but the extra time is great news for the freshness of the line and it gives us an extra man to play with for a month and see if he's a keeper (aka, keep a rookie at least bit longer).
Neal was in a tough spot..they did make a mention of him on Comcast last night..mentioned that he might be ready...the problem is that if he's taken off PUP..he has to be part of the 53 and if he's inactive.that is taking up another spot. The line is injured as it is. so it's better to PUP him for 6 and have him really ready then. Not only might it be one roster spot, but maybe 2..if he wasn't ready and another lineman needed. I agree..it'll turn out fine. A tough break for O'Callaghan...

This OL is starting to look a bit scary right now - But not in a good scary sort of way,a little concerning IMO

Yeah, I forgot off the bat as well. Funny how that works...I always have to take a refresher on the details of free agency in March, and of roster limits in July.

2. Physically Unable to Perform (PUP)
A player who fails his club’s pre-season physical at the start of training camp may be placed by his club on the Physically Unable to Perform list. A player on PUP is eligible to receive his salary, but he is ineligible to participate in practices or games. However, a player on PUP is permitted to practice with his club and may be restored his club’s Active/Inactive list during a three-week period beginning the day after the sixth regular-season game and ending after the ninth regular-season game.

Although that's not worded as well as it could, because the team has that three-week period to start practicing the player, then another 21 days from the start of practice to activate him.

I found this link but I can't tell for sure. It spells out "the day after the club's sixth regular-season game" in regards to a Non-Football Injury, but when they go on to talk about PUP it says "after the sixth regular-season game". The fact they use the word "game" rather than "week" makes me think it is six games (seven weeks) for Neal.

I'd think Mike Flynn may stick since he plays both positions occupied by O'Callaghan and Neal.

I think he might be. Hopefully he is up to speed in time ...
