I really like his answers. I don't care how he delivers them, I don't get what people don't like about him. He answers what he can (informatively) and doesn't what he can't.

That said, I think he answered the 5 RB's question for us. Anyone else think so?

For those of us who can't/didn't hear, how did he answer it?

Oh, it's on their site, but basically someone asked about the RB's starting with "since it's unlikely you're going to carry five RB's..."

He basically answered by talking about the backs and saying a lot about how keeping the best players is more likely than keeping a balanced roster and that it will probably be unbalanced. That sounds like a yes to 5 RB's to me. An unexpected (to me) comment on BJGE makes me wonder if it won't be the 5 we think it will, though...

Of course it's going to be the five we think, he's not going to keep BenJarvus Green-Ellis is he?

I didn't get that at all. I think he talked a lot today about the decision making process in general and how players aren't always competing against each other by position but are competing for roster spots based on talent and lack thereof which can effect roster balance (i.e. you may keep a more talented RB even though you'd like to keep an extra (name the position) if there isn't a player sufficienty talented at the desired position to make you a better team.

He also talked about how they review practice film and evaluate players every day as well as evaluating film from the 4 pre season games and how decisions are based on a body of work and evaluation over the course of time. Said that the significance of a performance in the 4th game has to be weighted against how close a player was to overtaking another for a roster spot. If he was well behind he may close the gap but still be behind. Said the decision to play players this week is based on lots of factors including what they need as individuals and what the team needs to field a unit where those who need work can be productive.

I think you may see Light while you may not see Brady (and would not if Light weren't taking some reps too). I think a few guys who have missed lots of time in pre season and/or camp may go a series and the rest of the evening will be guys competing for the last 3-4 roster spots, the PS, and the speed dial on Belioli's emergency rolodex. And O'Connell because it's the last time he'll see an NFL field for 11 months.

I'd love to see us play some real smash mouth football this year. I think it would catch many teams off guard.

Be nice to see some third downs with Faulk and Jordan in the backfield and that two TE set.

And then watch Tommy loft it to #81 :)

I think with the release of Pollard opens the door for 5 RBs on the roster - I don't think DeVree makes it unles he goes on the PS and thats where I expect him to land.

We go with 2 TEs and 5 RBs

Boom. I agree and I think this is our best use, especially with at least three of those RB's being viable blockers.

Personally, I'm hoping for a fair amount of O'Connell garbage time. :)

Then we coudl add to the QB controversy..

Usually, it is the back up to the starter controversy as often the Back up out shines the starter because he plays against the 2's & 3's in garbage time (just about all of pre-season is garbage time).

Obviously, we do not have that problem here in NE - but this pre-season we do have the back up to the back up controversy since the back up is the acting starting QB (similar situation in Seattle & Indy where the starters are out).

Now, you want to introduce another layer - the back up QB to the back ups QB back up out performing the back up QB to the back up QB.

That'l make your head hurt.
