This falls under the category of "what else was he going to say?" Hobson is running with the 3rd stringers in practice and in the preseason games. So this is likely a case of BB just being politically correct.

I can go both ways on Hobson...half of me says he doesnt seem to be getting it and get rid of him for the youth but the other half says here is a young vet who has performed well in this league (see tw seasons ago) do we want to give up on him because of some TC struggles?

I think we all realize that Belichick is the biggest Bull Sh!tter in the history of Coach to Media relations during press conferences so I would take ANYTHING Belichick says at these press conferences with a grain of salt

I watched that press conference live today and my only explanation was that it simply wasn't true...but that's fine with me!

Nobody knows, but guys who are new to the team and expected to contribute (Fernando Bryant, Jerod Mayo, Terrence Wheatley) were tossed into the pre-season pool to sink or swim. Hobson has barely got a toe wet, which cannot bode well for his chances.

I don't believe anything Belichick says in public, but there is a chance he could actually be telling the truth. I don't think any of us focus in on him on every play and none of us watch practices since training camp has ended. Odds are he is just using coach speak, but there is a slight chance that Belichick does believe what he said.

I haven't been able to watch any PS games, nor any of TC. However, I predict Hobson will make this team (unless Seau is brought in prior to the regular season--even then I think it's doubtful that Hobson gets cut). He's a veteran, is versatile, and therefore has value to BB.

I hope the Pats don't prove me wrong--they signed this guy for a reason and unless he is just completely "not who we thought he was!!" he'll make the 53.

Like Bill said in his presser today, they have to use evaluation of past film and past performance as well. That would be the only reason Hobson makes this team, as right now, he's behind Guyton on the depth chart. Personally, I had high hopes for Hobson, I thought he could rotate with Bruschi at SILB on running downs.

Think of it this way: at any point they can axe Hobson and slide Seau into his spot. Not a bad position to be in, if you ask me. Still, I wouldn't start biting my nails if they dropped him like a hot potato for one of the rookies.

It's hard to say, and BB's comments don't really shed any light. At this point, I will not be suprised, stunned, excited, or disappointed no matter what we do with Hobson. He's just kind of... there at the moment.

Your point about not seeing any bad plays is a valid one. He is probably looking invisible because he so far down the depth chart but at the same time we haven't seen any Beisel type plays out of him. Which leads back to the fact that it is taking him longer to grasp the system/new position than anyone expected but if that is the case do you just cut bait or do hang onto him in hopes that if he does grasp it that we would than be getting the guy that put up some big numbers a year or two ago.

Personally, I think you hang on to him for now. I think he fills a backup role at both ILB and OLB, and is better inside than Eric Alexander or Larry Izzo. In a few weeks, if Seau is ready to come back and he still hasn't stepped up, you cut him then and bring in Seau. But what if by then Bruschi has gone down, or Mayo has regressed? I still think he's probably the best insurance policy for those two, after Seau.

I think that this fact is the reason he had a better than remote shot at making the 53 man roster. Belichick is all about versatility. Hobson can provide depth outside if someone goes down which could be very useful. As of right now, I wouldn't want him to get significant time at either position, but he could get better inside and contribute.
