Re: Who's worse Hobbs or Bryant ?
I like Ellis, he seems like he is a nice kid. He does have an inflated sense of self worth, and likes to make excuses for having college level talent. My question is "Why the man love for Ellis F'ing Hobbs?" He is a good kick off guy and a bad cornerback, but the defenders of Ellis on this board have him in the Hall of Fame.
He is a GOOD cornerback and no one is trying to put him in the Hall...
My eyes tell me he is the closest thing to burnt toast on the field at any given time. My eyes tell me that his ONLY redeaming quality is that he can tackle well.
Your eyes lie, or you see what you want to see. Just because Hobbs makes the tackle doesn't mean Hobbs screwed up and allowed the catch.
When Hobbs runs over to Davenport and barely misses, he gets blamed for "getting burnt" when in reality he almost covered for a teammates screw-up because he wasn't supposed to be there or cover that man.
What about times when the play called is supposed to give Hobbs safety help over the top, but the safety bites on an inside cut or a play fake and then Hobbs' man gets wide open. Hobbs may have played it perfectly right, but the safety screwed up and all we see on TV is Hobbs' man making a catch.
He would be in trouble if he couldn't because as long as he is on the field, the opposing offense is throwing to his side.
Yea except Samuel allowed a higher percentage of completions last year. The year before they always threw at Samuel, until he got all those INTs. So throwing more at someone doesn't mean they are bad, unless you think Samuel is bad which most don't?
If I am wrong I will own up to it, but I doubt I will have to. Ellis is bad and he won't last the year.
You are wrong, but you will never own up to it, much like every other Hobbs basher.
I'm pretty sure Ellis will be the patriots #1 CB for at least the next 5 years. Ellis has always done his job and the coaching staff has always been pleased with his work at corner. He doesn't take the risks that Samuel takes and therefore doesn't come up with a ton of interceptions. Remember though, Samuel's risks also led to some big plays/TD's when he was wrong. So it's a risk/reward type of deal.
Ellis Hobbs is also a MUCH better in man coverage than Samuel, and you need only go back to last year and watch games that we played a team with a great receiver like the Bengals. Hobbs mostly covers the #1 receiver, and if you watch the tapes you can see him stick to guys like Chad Johnson like glue in man coverage.
Ellis Hobbs is a GOOD corner, the best the patriots have (this year and the last few, save for maybe when he had his cast on). He is not going to the Hall of Fame and maybe never to the probowl, but I am damn glad we have him on our team.
And BTW, if Hobbs is in a deep zone coverage because of the play called... He is NOT supposed to jump the short routes, therefore if nobody is covering the short zone then it's going to be a completion and the BEST thing Hobbs can do is come up and make the tackle for as little extra gain as possible.
