Who's worse: Hobbs or Bryant?

You may be right. A lot of what we've seen on defense so far has been about as simple as simple can be. A lot of three man rushing and a lot of corners playing way off the line. They blitz a little (it was interesting to see Bruschi and Mayo do the ILB crossing blitz last night...it didn't work but it was interesting.) Anyway, I am sure the play at all the defensive positions will obviously improve once gameplanning really takes place.

And Capers is supposedly a blitz-monger, so unless he's mellowed out, we have to think that's a consideration.

Re: Who's worse Hobbs or Bryant ?

Bah I'm tired of seeing posts bashing Hobbs. It's amazing the hate this guy gets from so many pats fans.

Can we just wait to play some regular season games, where we actually scheme and gameplan for a team before you start misjudging players? It's not a if the patriots just played strict man to man and the db's were blowing it left and right. There are holes in every zone defense ever called/created.

I like Ellis, he seems like he is a nice kid. He does have an inflated sense of self worth, and likes to make excuses for having college level talent. My question is "Why the man love for Ellis F'ing Hobbs?" He is a good kick off guy and a bad cornerback, but the defenders of Ellis on this board have him in the Hall of Fame. My eyes tell me he is the closest thing to burnt toast on the field at any given time. My eyes tell me that his ONLY redeaming quality is that he can tackle well. He would be in trouble if he couldn't because as long as he is on the field, the opposing offense is throwing to his side.

If I am wrong I will own up to it, but I doubt I will have to. Ellis is bad and he won't last the year.

He's a nickel corner at best in this league and he's an offensive game plan waiting to happen for every team the Patriots face on their schedule.

He is a GOOD cornerback and no one is trying to put him in the Hall...

Your eyes lie, or you see what you want to see. Just because Hobbs makes the tackle doesn't mean Hobbs screwed up and allowed the catch.

When Hobbs runs over to Davenport and barely misses, he gets blamed for "getting burnt" when in reality he almost covered for a teammates screw-up because he wasn't supposed to be there or cover that man.

What about times when the play called is supposed to give Hobbs safety help over the top, but the safety bites on an inside cut or a play fake and then Hobbs' man gets wide open. Hobbs may have played it perfectly right, but the safety screwed up and all we see on TV is Hobbs' man making a catch.

Yea except Samuel allowed a higher percentage of completions last year. The year before they always threw at Samuel, until he got all those INTs. So throwing more at someone doesn't mean they are bad, unless you think Samuel is bad which most don't?

You are wrong, but you will never own up to it, much like every other Hobbs basher.

I'm pretty sure Ellis will be the patriots #1 CB for at least the next 5 years. Ellis has always done his job and the coaching staff has always been pleased with his work at corner. He doesn't take the risks that Samuel takes and therefore doesn't come up with a ton of interceptions. Remember though, Samuel's risks also led to some big plays/TD's when he was wrong. So it's a risk/reward type of deal.

Ellis Hobbs is also a MUCH better in man coverage than Samuel, and you need only go back to last year and watch games that we played a team with a great receiver like the Bengals. Hobbs mostly covers the #1 receiver, and if you watch the tapes you can see him stick to guys like Chad Johnson like glue in man coverage.

Ellis Hobbs is a GOOD corner, the best the patriots have (this year and the last few, save for maybe when he had his cast on). He is not going to the Hall of Fame and maybe never to the probowl, but I am damn glad we have him on our team.

And BTW, if Hobbs is in a deep zone coverage because of the play called... He is NOT supposed to jump the short routes, therefore if nobody is covering the short zone then it's going to be a completion and the BEST thing Hobbs can do is come up and make the tackle for as little extra gain as possible.

I said consider the alternative of what we could have had:

DRC and Lofton

or

DRC and Wheatley and Dan Connor (How would that have been ?)

We took Mayo, we'll see how this all pans out.

Right now, these corners we have will get eaten alive by any of the top end QBs on our schedule, thankfully they get their feet wet with Brady Croyle to start things off, my worry is what Favre is going to do to these corners the following week.

I'll admit it if I am wrong, hell what do I have to lose? All last year all I heard was why would anybody throw at Asante and Ellis was just a victim of Asante's success. Then when he gives up what might be the easiest touchdown in Super Bowl history, all I hear is he was hurt. Now all I am hearing is that he was told to play 10 yards off the reciever. I would rather lose with young corners with promise than with a failed experiment, and right now Ellis has failed.

On the plus side he has a really hot girl friend.

From what I've seen and heard about Mayo thus far, no other linebacker would have done. He fits BB, he fits the system. You can't say the same about DRC because you really have no idea, he doesn't play here.

What rubrick can you possibly be using to claim that Hobbs has failed?

He doesn't cross his arms and nod like he just saved the world every time he makes a play.

What????? get ready to start admitting your wrong in week 2. You clearly don't understand what his assignments are. AND NO, i'm not saying Hobbs is great, or should be in h.o.f. but he's certainly nowhere near as bad as some people on this board think he is.

Nothing would make me happier than having to admit that I was wrong, I just don't think I will be wrong.

Bryant is far worse than Hobbs and I'm not a Hobbs fan.
