I propose that anyone posting any variation of "we suck," "we have no passion," "we look awful," "let's tear this team down and start building again," or "this team is pathetic" voluntarily remove themselves from posting if the Pats beat Kansas City by more than 14 pts in week 1, and don't return until the first Patriots loss. That is all.

i propose that people stop telling other people what to post.

*sigh* - I propose you all keep your propositions limited to pretty girls.

How about the Mods make a "sky is falling" forumn?

IMO there's a big difference between saying 1) "we have no passion" [blanket statement] or "we look awful" [debatable as to relevance during the PS], compared with 2) "let''s tear this team down and start building again" [not worth debating] for example.

I propose that everyone's entitled to their opinion.

So what happens if the Chiefs beat the Patriots?

You going away?

I second the motion, every year its the same thing. If the team looks bad in preseason,or for stretches during the regular season theres a lrg group of people that turn on this team in a heart beat. And yet some of them are the first to yell blasphamy if you make even the smallest critisizem of the team when its doing well.

Noe, but I haven't made any declarative statements like, "this team is all set" or "we look amazing." The only thing I've said is that what we look like in preseason games is totally meaningless. "We" (as in the 2008 Patriots) doesn't even exist yet and certainly hasn't taken the field, any team-performance oriented observations being made now are irrelevant.

And my opinion is that those statements are worthless.

I believe the Pats are currently playing without passion. I also believe they will beat KC 35-3.

Then why have preseason? Why discuss it here?

Lets just shut the board down until an hour prior to the KC game.

This is an internet board. If everyone agreed with everyone I would not come here. I do agree with you that the final product will look much better during the season. If you think Belichick is happy with last night you are crazy.

They played like crap last night, why are we not allowed to say that?

Preseason isn't designed for NFL fans. It's designed for coaches and teams to PRACTICE in whatever way they see fit. For the Pats, in my opinion, this means forgetting the work that goes into game planning a regular season game, and focusing the game around finding out what individual players who may or may not make the team are capable of as well as giving the rest of the team a few game-situation snaps that they can't provide in a regular practice. That being said, I wouldn't mind preseason being only two games.

The only reason why fans are this into preseason games is because ESPN, CBS, NFLN etc. have realized they can capitalize on the popularity of the NFL and the long offseason by marketing and hyping these practices as regular season games. The franchises go along with it because they make a ton of revenue off of ticket purchases for 4 extra games a year. This is why the commentators act like the game is important and why you have so many NFL fans who now think of these practices in terms of "winning or losing."

I don't care if everyone agrees with me or not, in fact I like it better when people don't agree with me. But when everyone goes into this hysterical frenzy year after year, and it's mostly due to some marketing ploy, I think it's fair for me to point out that all of these declarative statements in preseason are totally useless if the Pats subsequently go on and perform like they always do.

Fair enough. Why is this a criticism then?

It is not a criticism, it is an observation.

The question is, is this a 14-2 team with home field advantage in the playoffs, or an 11-5/12-4 team that will have to win on the road in the playoffs?

This lack of emotion is something I'm not used to seeing from a BB team in the preseason. Because it is an unknown for me, I don't feel comfortable with it. That does not necessarily mean it is a bad thing- just something I don't recognize.

Is it BB playing a shell-game? Or is it a hangover from last season's emotional rollercoaster?

I have no idea. Uncertainty makes people uneasy.
