QB (3): Brady, Cassel, O'Connell
RB/FB (5): Maroney, Faulk, Morris, Evans, Jordan
WR (6): Moss, Welker, Gaffney, Jackson, Washington, Slater
TE (2): Watson, Thomas
OT (5): Light, Kaczur, Britt, O'Callaghan, Welbourn
OG/C (5): Koppen, Mankins, Hochstein, Yates, Flynn

DL (6): Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, Green, Wright, LSmith
OLB (4): Vrabel, A. Thomas, Crable, Woods
ILB (5): Bruschi, Mayo, Guyton, Izzo, Hobson
CB (4): Hobbs, Bryant, Wheatley, LSanders
S (5): Harrison, J. Sanders, Meriweather, Lynch, Spann
ST (3): Gostkowski, Hanson, Paxton

PUP (2): Neal, Ross
PS (8): Gutz, Ventrone, Stupar, Green-Ellis, Dillard, Wilhite, Redd, Adams
Cut (17): Alexander, Aiken, Connolly, DeVree(26th), Eckel, Fifita, Martin(26th), Sene(26th), Shoate(26th), KSmith, Spach, SThomas, JWebster, Wendell(26th), CJJones, Ruud, Richardson
IR: Williams, Clement, Stokes

Tough choices:
Hobson vs Alexander. In the end it came to Hobson's ability to play inside and out with lack of depth at the LB spot or else I would cut both.

Dillard vs Wilhite vs Richardson for 2 PS spots. Richardson is gone. Dillard has been playing better and Wilhite has more potential. Richardson goes into the shadows.

JWebster vs LSanders. Webster just hasn't been able to stay on the field.

SThomas and Fifta are tough cuts. Both have been solid contributors.

We're not getting Wilhite on the PS. Cut him if you like - but you'll lose him. Despite the injuries at OL I thnk we can cut one of Yates, Flynn or Welbourn from your list and keep Wilhite. Has O'Callaghan practiced ? If not he could be PUPed.

Yes, O'Callaghan has practiced.

As I was sitting through a boring all day seminar today, that 53 is close to the one I wrote down. I'm glad that you kept Guyton. I'd like to see them keep Redd.

Somehow I'd like to add Wilhite, Redd and Seau to the roster.

How ?

I would cut one of the marginal OL. I'd cut Evans although I like him. And I'd cut Hobson.

He would have to clear waivers to get on the PS, so if any of those 3 don't clear then someone else wins a job. I just can't see keeping Wilhite over one of our 9 year veterans FA pickups.

IMO, I have trouble seeing how we keep both Morris and Jordan. Unfortunately, one of those guys go. They are different types of RB's but essentially on the roster are doing the same thing - coming to spell Maroney off and share some carries. The depth that both provide is enormous but they are doing the same thing on the roster. One of them would probably be a game day inactive as well every week.

I would take Seau over Hobson in a heartbeat.

I agree, probably dependent on whoever is closer to 100% or what team they are playing. If there was a formidable 3rd TE, I would cut one of them.

After the game last night, there are some new battles!

Gutz looked good enough to take the #2 job last night, but I'd like to see him in one more meaningless game.

CJ Jones is in direct competition with Jackson. They both should be on the team, but there's not enough room to keep both.

Slater was playing safety last night and looked decent and with Slater possibly taking a safety spot it gets complex. I see Slater vs Spann vs Cjax vs CJJones for 3 roster spots. Not sure who gets cut there.

I would like to see what Gutz can do against 1st or 2nd stringers first.

How about Cassel to PUP? He limped off last night. It's risky, but it keeps all four QB's. I think/hope Gut's gets the lion's share of reps against the Vagiants.

I think if you cut ANY of those guys, they find a team by October. That said, I like Spann and I think he's shown up in CAMP, but if I had to pick one to cut, it's him. That's a move that makes us much scarier NEXT year, or by mid-season.

I imagine, based on our limited info, that Jones looks a little better than Jackson in real action. It's almost like voting with those guys. Pick the least sucky guy, both COULD be decent, but no-one's envisioning either one setting any records.

Slater gives us a safety, a receiver and a return specialist and he does all of them with a level of competence already. Pretty hard to cut.

Gut's to #2, Slater, Jones, Jackson OR since we do have a LOAD of receivers already, maybe Spann instead of Jones (just because of contract issues).

You have to start training camp on PUP. Cassell is either going to be cut or if they really want him around for the future then onw aay to keep him, if the injury is 'serious' is to IR him.

I totally forgot about that. Thank you.

Does IR require them to miss the whole season?

Sorry, CJ Jones is another Patrick Cobbs or Bam Childress. Looks like a stud against the back ups and just won't make the active roster. He will probably be on the practice squad again this year.

Cassel is a free agent after this year anyway. Why PUP him other than to pay him a salary not to go anywhere else this year?

EDIT: Sorry, I was thinking IR for a second there. As stated Cassel can't be PUPed. My initial response was for IR.

Yeah, I was short on understanding of the PUP/IR system. My bad.

In that case, lay the axe to him. ;)

You may be right. He's shown flashes when returning kicks. That would be his ticket to the roster.

If you put Cassel on IR you are going to lose him to FA anyway. I don't think the injury was so bad that would even need an injury settlement. They would cut him before going on IR. At least give him a chance to suck on some other team.
