Would you swap Gaffney for Sheppard and a mid round pick in 2009?

O.K. I was thinking about this upcoming preseason game tomorrow and look at the needs of both teams NE and Philly and think HMMM I like potentials of trades while the birds are in town.....

Philly lost thier biggest threat at WR in Kevin Curtis and are in dire need of some help there.

We have some problems at corner and especially with depth there

I love the guy as a WR here, but would'nt you think Gaffney and a mid pick in next years draft would be a good trade with Philly and they swap Sheppard's rights for here? (I am not sure of the cap though)

I know Chad Jackson is not worth scrap heap right now to do that kind of deal, but Gaffney has proven he can be that kind of go to guy Donovan needs so to me it makes some sense.

Would you say this trade would be beneficial for both teams and take a chance that Chad would finally show something other than being worthless by moving up the roster at WR if Jabar was no longer here?

In other words, would you risk one of our clutch receivers and a mid round pick next year for shoring up our secondary with a proven veteran corner and taking a chance that Jackson finally produces?

Not at all...not needed NO...

Philly would laugh at that Offer..Considereing they could prolly send Lito and a mid-rounder to the Cards in exchange for Boldin. Gaffney is good but only b/c the system he has been in with NE.

Why are the Eagles going to trade Sheppard, who whether you are a big fan or not (and I'm not) is a player with some trade value, for a guy the Eagles cut less than 2 seasons ago?

wasn't gaffney with the eagles before and they cut him loose?

but to answer your question.... no way. we really don't have a 4 wr. after moss, welker and gaff.

Probably not. I'd say that Sheppard's production would be less than Gaffney's production. I know Gaffney is the "#3", but I think he's better than a #3 receiver.

I also think that, in today's NFL, your secondary doesn't need to be that great. The way the rules are today, any receiver can get open if the front 7 doesn't do their job.

I think Gaffney has improved considerably the past 2 years where he might have some trade value now - plus an added draft pick on top of that

It has happened in the past where teams let a player go only to sign them again a year or so later.

Lito is disgruntle in Philly..I mean he went from starter to playing the Nickel..Its been reported that he wants out ne ways; they wont release him but it would take more than Gaffney and mid-rounder to get him from Philly.

maybe he was good and just needed a good QB. maybe the eagles were just bad and didn't know how to use him. brady ahs improved his stock

Ahhh.... the ever popular "both teams lose" type of trade....

Absolutely, positively ******ED. Sheppard is WAY more valuable than Gaffney. Good Lord. Just STOP.

With Samuel there I think Sheppard is going to sit a lot so unless Samuel gets hurt, Sheppard may be on the bench -

I think whoever can offer Philly a WR and some kind of incentive may have a trade - Lito wants out of town and its not exactly a secret - Maybe not with Gaffney as I say can happen, but with a WR they may think can fit thier team - Gaffney is really the only WR we have with value besides our top 2 Moss and Welker and they are not going anywhere for awhile.

Thanks for your opinion brain surgeon and who might you suggest Sheppard is traded for in the league at the WR position?

Its probably gonna happen soon and with some team,Philly has a beyond pathetic WR corps and a disgruntled vet at corner - Somethings got to give.

this trade doesnt make sense for either team;
if stallworth was still around, then gaff would be expendable

With all our 3 wr sets we NEED at least 3 good wr's. Jesus, Chad Jackson was the 5th WR last year, without Stallworth he is essentially given the 4th WR spot(without having earned it!).....and now you want to promote him to #3?? Having him on the field every play cant help our offense til he gets his act together.
On the other hand I would have him playing with the first string, put Brady in for a series or 2 and pass to him every play to make him look good.....THEN we trade him for Lito, if they are so gullable. If there is a trade happening look for a SOLID OL guy to come in for a draft pick...

Thank God someone agrees with me...I mean Lito is alot more valuable compared to Gaff. WE would have to give up Gaff and prolly and 2nd and maybe even a 4th for that deal to work.

Gaffney couldn't cut it with the Eagles two years ago. Why would they want him back. He is the same receiver that he was when they cut him. The only difference is the QB throwing him the ball and the system. Gaffney was a four year veteran when he was cut by the Eagles and picked up by the Pats, it wasn't like he was a raw rookie who honed his skills here.

On that subject, WRs on the Patriots never have the value as their production. Not after Deion and Givens failed elsewhere. When you have a legend like Brady throwing to you, most WRs play above their heads. Do you really think Gaffney or even Welker would be nearly as good as they was elsewhere with another QB throwing them the ball?

I completely agree although Givens was a complete bust....Deion showed promise with the Hawks but couldnt stay healthy...It also doesnt help Gaff's stock with the wr that is around him in NE and that is like A+ compared to the C+ wr's in Philly.

What is Sheppard's contract? We all know that a player's contract and salary cap impact play a huge part in how BB/SP value any player.

With no regards to money, yes, I would make this deal if it was up to me. If Chad Jackson or Kelley Washington can't step in as the #3 WR, the Pats have proven that they have a history of being able to bring in free agents and have them be effective at WR - such as Gaffney, for example - and that was before other teams had to focus on Moss and Welker. In my opinion the move would upgrade the secondary more than it would hurt the WR position.
