Re: TMQ:Afc preview

I won't read this freak's article, but I hope he works Marvin Harrison into his "good vs evil" theme this year.

Re: TMQ:Afc preview

This is just a clown writing what he WANTS to happen, not what he predicts actually WILL happen.

YAY! Manning v. Manning, how cute. What a child.

Re: TMQ:Afc preview

Hitler Youth still works there? I thought he got canned after the Walsh stuff.

Oh well. Another crap article for me to not read.

Re: TMQ:Afc preview

Never in human history has one man been paid so much to write so much, and nevertheless be so incredibly wrong about so many different things.

Eh.... pretty much every Federal politician proves this statement wrong.

New England's section so you don't have to give the guy another hit...

New England: Here's a question: Would the Patriots' players and coaches exchange their 2007 season with the 2007 season of the Giants? Of course, in public, to a man, they'd say, "Forget the records we set, we'd rather have won the Super Bowl." But my guess is that they'd rather have their 2007 season, oh-so-incomplete as it was, than the Giants' trophy. Twenty years from now, football purists will be hard-pressed to remember much about the 2007 Giants. The 2007 Patriots, on the other hand, will never be forgotten. The first 16-0 regular season; the highest-scoring team in football history; more touchdown passes than Buffalo, Miami, Minnesota and San Francisco combined; 39 seconds shy of perfection. In terms of memory power, New England's accomplishments exceeded what the Giants did, even if Jersey/A got to stand in the confetti shower on the sliding tray in Arizona. All New England needed to do was stop a third-and-11 snap with 45 seconds showing, and the word "perfect" would have shimmered into view. The snap was not stopped, because nobody's ever been 19-0 and most likely nobody ever will be. But to come so close -- that will not be forgotten.

As for the conventional wisdom that New England had its day and will now decline, consider the following. Currently the Patriots are on a 23-2 run, with their only losses being final-play defeats by that year's Super Bowl champions: the Colts and then the Giants. Decline? The Patriots are one terrific football team. Tuesday Morning Quarterback thinks the Colts are the club to beat this year, because the football gods will exact vengeance on the Patriots for all the bad karma they created with poor sportsmanship in 2007. But if you asked me the team I would rather not play in September, I would say New England.

One reason the Flying Elvii got to 16-0 in the 2007 regular season was a schedule without any West Coast trips; the Super Bowl was the sole time the team had to kick off west of the Rockies last season. In 2008, New England faces four trips to the West Coast. Good omen: The Patriots have 12 straight home postseason victories -- the record is 13, held by Green Bay. Bad omen: In this decade, Seattle is the only Super Bowl loser to make the playoffs the following season. Since 2001, Super Bowl losers are 47-65 in the season following their losses.

Cognomen note: Reader Sean Skierski of Collingswood, N.J., proposes that the TMQ cognomen Flying Elvii be changed to Spying Elvii.

I hate the guy and never read his column unless it is pointed out to me like this thread, but he seems pretty fair and balanced. Other than the karma crap with the Patriots for running up the score and the Spying Elviis, he did give the Patriots a glowing review and basically say that they could be the Super Bowl winner although he is going with Indy because of the stupid karma angle.

So he basically says that he prays the evil Patriots should be punished by some karmic god for their evil ways last year.. but that when push comes to shove he wouldnt bet against them. Sounds about right.

I hope someone fair and evenhanded writes one soon. Someone with no bias. Someone like Bill Simmons! Yeah

"Spying Elvii"

Jesus, when is PETA gonna get involved? That horse is deader than sh!t and yet people continue to pound the crap out of it.

The Colts will win because they love the sound of children's laughter and believe in a higher power.

Stop reading guys like Easterbrook and Dr. Z. They are media guys who refuse to understand the mentality one needs to play or coach winning football. They have biases based on media friendliness NOT football strategy or performance.

For the last week I've been addicted to Mike Lombardi's blog on Nationalfootballpost.com. Unlike some of the so called experts, Lombardi actually knows the NFL.

The Colts will win the superbowl because Jim Sorgi will finally rise and become the hall of famer he was born to be.

If there are football gods, they will exact vengeance on him for his willful stupidity. :banned:

He gets me steamed with his regular Spygate mentions - that's the point after all - but I enjoy reading his column still. If we were to limit our sources to those "who KNOW football" we'd be down to a very short, and likely very boring list except for a sharpie or two like Lombardi and Kirwan.

TMQ purports only to be a fan who is lucky enough to get paid to write about his favorite pro sport - The NFL. Jeez, he mocks himself more than anyone. But I'm not here to defend him, if you can't over the Spygate stuff, well, it's your life. I just think if you really dig football, you'll find his column worth the while most weeks. Suit yourself.

you could read it in secret and still bash him on Patsfans.com. That way you could play it as an ultra-homer while at the same time checking out if the enemy has anything useful to say.

his first and a half paragraphs were very good...

he asked a question i have never thought about asking......and to be honest, im thinking he may be right...

but after the second sentece int he second paragraph, all NE fans can stop reading

The Colts remind me of the '90's Atlanta Braves. Regular season heroes and playoff zeros.

All the National Media sees are the regular season stats. They fail to take into account that the Colts are 7*-6 in playoff games since 2000, while the Pats are 14-3 over the same period.

*4 of those wins came in the Colts Super Bowl winning season.
