Afternoon Practice

Rodney was back, that's really nice. Willhite too, he needs all the reps he can get being a rookie missing time.

Yeah, but also notable who did practice.

Rodney Harrison - he has been out a while, and after practicing only twice through camp and the signing of John Lynch, there was a lot of concern that this could be a serious injury. If he is back, that could really stabilize the secondary.

Jason Webster - he was the #1 corner for the first several practices, then went down for three weeks. He would be another big boost to the secondary.

Jonathan Wilhite - his chances of making the regular squad have really taken a hit with a couple weeks out. His best shot is the practice squad at this point, but good that he is back.

Kelley Washington - with the struggles of Chad Jackson and the injury to Sam Aiken, he has a real shot at the #4 WR spot. He really needs some time with the offense - last year he was purely special teams. It would be nice to give him some time in game three.

However, four OL out, two on PUP, two on IR - that is brutal. There has to be a lot of concern here.

A little more from the ProJo, though :

"As we were walking off the field, we spotted Neal and Ross were on a separate field being put through some drills....and when we came back into Gillette, saw Brady throwing to an unseen receiver on the turf. He did not appear to be wearing anything on either foot, though he was of course wearing cleats."

The unseen receiver would have to be Welker who gets lost in high grass

I swear Belichick is doing all of this on purpose.

Seriously.

Yep. This is why preseason for the best coach in the legue isn't for the fans, nobody has any idea what is going on. For all we know he could have intentionally tanked that preseason game to give the players a kick in the @ss. Or he could have deliberately developed broken plays, or crappy schemes. Or the Pats could just really suck. Anyway you look at it the fans have no idea what is going on at this point and nothing I've seen is any different than preseason any other year. I find it amazing that people who are otherwise very knowledgeable Pats fans are coming out with such panicky comments.

Actually Webster was still out according to Reiss....

I have to admit, I'm beginning to think your line of thinking is correct.

I think he is pi$$ed about the 80 man limit.

Lets hope he does not break any rules along the way.

You might have a point about that. I've heard that many coaches around the league are not happy about it.

Did everyone watch BB's press conference at patriots.com? Seriously, watching that and taking various snippets into account, I think he's dealing with SOME deficiencies, but I think our D's front line was actually doing almost exactly what they were told to do in that last game.

I think its fair to say at any given time there were MULTIPLE guys on the field fighting for JOBS. There is no tanking it, there is no deliberate broken plays. The game plan may have been simple to see what the new guys could do athletically(which can be compensated a bit with scheme for the older guys) but thats it. Its still football and no one wants to lose.
