"Is The Future Now For The Patriots?"

The biggest problem with these arguments is that they always seem to assume that everyone else's upgrades will be just that, while the Pats are treading water or sliding backwards. . . .

Take Eddie George, or Marshall Faulk- players at the top of their game who suddenly hit the brakes the following year. It happens and it is inevitable. The Patriots hope that this type of future is still far away in the distance, but we all know it is creeping up as we speak

Running backs usually suffer sudden declines? No way.

This relates to the Patriots organization as a whole? Thank you for your insight Mr. Bowen.

The rest of the AFC watched film all off-season on the Patriots. This is what teams do to fill up the hours of meeting time in March, April, and May. They watch the best and figure out ways to beat the best.

And we all know Belichick spends his off-seasons completely separated from football and won't be adjusting at all. Another good point Mr. Bowen!

Maybe I missed something:

Is this another "Spygate" thing? Did everyone else get to watch the Super Bowl tape EXCEPT Bill Belichick?

Can BB only determine stuff through "illegal" tapes and not through the coaches tape?

Did everyone else upgrade their pass rush to NY Giant level talent?

Did Maroney rush for 100 plus yards several times later in the year/playoffs or were those sprints around the "doghouse"?

Is our defense "old" in dog or human years?

Is the pre-season now the new regular season?

How can I get a job making money writing truly stupid columns?

Were doomed......

If we lose one game, then this guy is right....

"Although I still believe New England to be the class of the East, look for them to be challenged by the other teams in the division, who are suddenly gaining ground on the big dog"

"However, they better be on alert- the rest of the league is starting to gain ground."

I am afraid ................................that this guy is an idiot.

"Tom Brady has yet to take a snap in the preseason, which might not be alarming to the fans of the Pats, but his absence has affected this ball club. They looked atrocious in their first two games. Randy Moss just signed a fat new contract and bought a racing team, obviously planning for the future. "

Soooo... nobody here is worried? Then it is obviously Randy Moss making all the Chicken Little posts. Let's welcome him to the board.

'Twas a crap article, in my humble opinion.

Do people stop questioning Moss's motivation - for the Patriots - after this year? The next? The purchase of a racing company seems rather specious as the basis for this questioning, too. Did his juice franchises affect his production or play last year? Gimme a break.

Maroney must have a 125-yard-long leash from that doghouse.

Beyond the rehashed, bogus "very old" defense argument, why point to two RBs - the most physically punishing position on the field and the position with the shortest shelf life - to portend the certain and "inevitable" demise of Rodney and Tedy?

It's funny to me how offended some of you get when someone writes an article like this. It's a completely legitimate perspective.

but i will say, though, that this is perfect for the Pats. Actually it made me feel better.

It seems like every year when you wonder how they're going to get themselves together emotionally, people start writing about how they're done for or cheaters or blah blah blah and it only motivates the team. So, thanks!

Moss is the one making the Chicken Little posts!

Damn, I guess the pundits were right, he is a cancer. :p

Dude

Stupid journalism should be offensive to everyone. Look at the "insight":

Why would anyone think that everyone but BB did film study this offseason?

The "old" thing- what no young linebackers and safeties in the mix?

What team looks like a dynamo when the all universe QB doesn't play- IN PRESEASON

So what Division winner last year doesn't have teams in their division NOT trying to get better?

Jets are going to catch "old" Pats by acquiring 39 year old QB/ 32 year old linemen.

The article could be thoughtful. Here are some themes:

Pats have played 3.5 seasons of football 2005-2007. Added wear and tear are inevitable.

TB might be showing some inevitable wear/tear.

Personnel getting up there in age/ young kids not ready yet.

Teams stocking pass rushing talent.

Add to this the way the schedule is set up for us...bye in week 4?? Would it be out of line for BB to say to his vets "we want you back HEALTHY, take your time if you are hurt. We wont be 16-0 this year.....but lets try and go 13-0 and treat the first 3 games like the preseason??"
We didnt have Rodney for the first 4 games last year, or Seymour for ....what ...7?? If Neal's injury is as bad as some of us think, he is on pup til the end. Seau is on shadow roster(a great place for Cassel too in my opinion). The SB wont be won in September.
This isnt a new regime, there are no new coordinators(O/D)to install new systems(besides Capers DBs). The learning curve for the vets is minimal, so it allows us to experiment and take longer looks at rookies.....which inevitably will show in the score.

LOL I left a comment for the article but apparently it didn't pass the scrutiny of moderation.

My main point was that the author was an idiot because he missed the single biggest potential flaw in the 2008 Pats -- the health and effectiveness of the OL.

LOL indeed, the comments section looked pretty civilized:banned:

He never mentioned the OL once, and if he understood anything at all (which he obviously doesn't) he'd have at least addressed it somehow. You don't have to be a football guru to give passing mention to our bearded bruthas, seeing as they were a pretty hot topic all of 07 -especially in Feb- and for all kinds of reasons have remained so throughout the offseason.

Brady could be firing 110% on all cylinders with the football body of a 20 yo, but if he's somebody's ragdoll like he was during the SB, none of that will matter. I'll take a beat-up Brady behind a healthy, tight OL over a healthy Brady behind a beat-up, gassed and injured OL-anyday.

Let's not forget what the media was saying this time lasy year...

Rodney Harrison suspended 4 games, must have been cheating...

Richard Seymour could be out for the season...

Randy Moss still not practicing and could be a surprise cut...

Actually I think a lot of people think the Pats have nowhere to go but down after last year's records and performances. SB notwithstanding, they were the best team in the NFL. If you're the top you can only do one of two things- remain at the top or slide down. Or beat last year but that's going to be almost impossible.

It doesn't bother me that he's predicting doom but it bothers me that he's basing it on 2 preseason games without much in the way of analysis.

Usually I don't read many of these threads but I thought the article's title was intriguing. The article didn't live up to it's hype tho.

The future is now for any legitimate Super Bowl contender.

I'm not concerned; everyone and their dog that isn't a pats fan has been saying for the past 5 offseasons that this is the year the pats are gonna stink up the joint. Its yet to happen. As long as Tom, Bill, Teddy, and Rodney are there I have no concerns. We never do good in preseason and we're always slow to start the season, but we always make the playoffs and go deep.. except for that one year when we got screwed by the refs against the broncos.
