Per WEEI: Patriots release Marcus Pollard

I just heard this on their sports flash. I'll post a link when I find one.

Re: Per WEEI: Patriots release Marcus Pollard

Wow, something of a surprise. Though I was wondering after seeing him playing in the 4th quarter on Sunday.

Re: Per WEEI: Patriots release Marcus Pollard

I thought a Veteran player was going to get the axe to kind of shake things up in the clubhouse. I didn't think Pollard was going to make the team anyway.

Re: Per WEEI: Patriots release Marcus Pollard

Makes me feel better about Watson's health and effectiveness. Not that Pollard was a good blocker, but carrying fewer TEs must mean that Watson can fill multiple roles.

Re: Per WEEI: Patriots release Marcus Pollard

Not sure if I'm surprised or not but I never really expected him to make the team.

Re: Per WEEI: Patriots release Marcus Pollard

I think Spach will make the 53 now, taking Kyle Brady's spot from last year. I hear those Fresno State guys can really block.

Re: Marcus Pollard released

I think we can safely surmise from those comments that BB isn't afraid of Pollard going somewhere and doing anything of note.

Edit---chanaged "is" to "isn't"

Is it going to be Spach or Stupar?

Re: Marcus Pollard released

Doesn't exactly surprise me. I had hoped he could be a solid #3 TE who could step up if DT or BW got hurt, but he didn't look like he could still play in the NFL in those first two games. Had a pretty ugly drop on one of Cassel's only good passes of the day too.

Props to BB. They cut him sooner rather than later so that he could try to find gainful employment elsewhere in the league.

Bill must be confident on Ben, Dave and Stephen.

Can we assume now that the Pats will carry only two tight ends

on the 53 man roster and another on the practice squad?

Spach is not practice squad eligible.

I for one was Stuparfied by the announcement

watson, thomas and spach, just as I had figured.

However, i wouldn't put it past Bill to pick up another veteran tight end. Marcellus Rivers, where are you?

Not a surprise. If he wasn't going to make the gameday active 45, Belichick would certainly want to release him early enough to catch on elsewhere. Pollard isn't getting any faster and he still seems to have the stone hands disease he developed over the last couple of years.

Opening up his roster spot may also mean that someone else is soon to be added.
