For the entire time he was out there all I watched was Richard Seymour. I saw everything I needed to see ... even though it was just a pre-season game he was tying up 2 blockers and he was pursuing the plays away from him like the Seymour before he was injured. To me it's all about Seymour and the rest of the DL ... because all the defensive creativity starts with the play of IMO the best DL in the league.

Give me a healthy RS this year along with Warren & Wilfork, Wright & Green and we will have the most dominant DL in the NFL.

In turn they will boost the effectiveness of LB & DB's.

All of which will lead us to the best defense we have had for a few years (and last year wasn't too shabby either).

I am really feeling great about this team this year unlike so many of the pessimists around here.

Really guys....this team is stacked.

I agree about Seymour--if he's back it's huge for the entire defense. But if you flipped the equation around and said that, say Hobbs or Faulk looked terrible last night, therefore they are going to suck-ass this year, you'd get flamed by alot of the oldtimers around here.

We say this every single year and this D-line has not lived up to its potential. They are not the best but I would say their in the top 5. Ty Warren and Wilfork were great last year but Seymour was actually the weak link. It's a big question mark whether Seymour can return to pre-injury form. With the secondary the Pats have, their going to need the Richard Seymour of old.

I hope Seymour can revert back to form because its crucial that he does since the secondary needs pressure up front to make their job easier.

I still think Julius Peppers and Will Smith are the best DL in the league,Hopefully Seymour can equal those guys in production this year.

I thought the DL played very well last night for a pe-season game. Yampa was running but that was because of the lack of creativity with the LB's which is standard fare for a Belichick pre-season.

We'll get a little taste this coming Friday for a quater of so ... and it's going to taste good.
If Seymour is indeed back Vrable, AD and Crable could all be double digit in sacks this year.
Optimistic :D , probably but so what .. it's the pre-season and I can talk all the crap ;) I want.:)

Your right....my hope is this is the first year RS/Wilfork & Warren play healthy together.

Re: Richaed Seymour - If You Missed it You Were Blind.

Wilfork has enough incentive.

Re: Richaed Seymour - If You Missed it You Were Blind.

Actually, I saw 2 guys block him and when he got by them, there was a third guy there.

Ray Charles checking in, I thought the D Line was dominated. Tampa rushed for 176 yards, pretty much at will. They shoved the front 3 around. I am sure they will bounce back but this isn't the game I would hang my hat on. To be honest I didn't see Warren, Wilfork or Seymour anywhere near the QB and against the run they were pushed backwards.

It's called a 2-gap for a reason ... they all held up the blockers but Belichick was not running the schemes to fill the "Gaps" ... the LB's were just reacting to what was there. Let's face it, if you're going to analyze players better to watch them reacting to what they see.

Your icon is freaking me out...

Really? So how many yards did the Bucs get with the 1st team defense in the game (first 3 drives)? And more importantly, what was their yards-per-carry? Must have been something like 6 or 7 with the DL being dominated like you describe.

BTW, don't forget to deduct the reverse from the rushing yards. Not because they didn't count, just because Woods blew his backside containment...and last time I looked Woods didn't play on the DL.

The DL was the one unit that I thought actually played well last night. Weird.

I counted 55 yards not including the end around because that wouldn't be "fair" to the D Line. Roughly 5 1/2 minutes per drive and 50 yards per drive. No sacks, no pressure and lots of plays moving backwards.

It is only the pre-season but there is still work to be done, hardly an impressive outings or as some have put it "dominant".

how about There Will Be Tackling or There Will Be Stopping The Run?

Thanks for all those isolating on Seymour, I had the compu feed and it was fuzzy.

If Sey and Merriweather (cross fingers) are healthy, we're fine as wine on D, though there's a learning curve.

For those with pieces of the sky falling on their heads...we have some rookies out there and other new players. Take a chill pill.
