Let this be a topic of celebration.

Yankees as of August 15th, 2008

GB Wild Card leader: 6.5 (Red Sox)
GB AL East leader: 9.5 (Rays)

For those of you who want to reference last year's Yankees comeback, they were in a much better position as this same exact time last year.

Yankees as of August 15th, 2007

GB Wild Card Leader: Tied for 1st place (Mariners)
GB AL East Leader: 5.0 (Red Sox)

Rejoice. :eat2:

its to early to start a thread like this . the mets had a seven game lead last year in september and blew it.

That was a once in a lifetime choke of epic proportions that will never be duplicated again.

There is no way the Yankees are making the playoffs this year and Toronto may be eventually surpassing them in the standings.

When your starting rotation's #3-5 starters are Sidney Ponson, Darrell Rasner, and TBA, it's going to be hard to make the playoffs, so I agree. Nothing is impossible, but the Yankees injuries are simply too much to overcome at this point in the season. Again though, you never know. TB lost two important players, and has a brutal September schedule, so they could drop off significantly, which would leave the 2nd place team in the central as WC competition. I think they're in trouble, but who knows.

The Yankees have pretty much thrown in the towel for this year ... like the Sox did a few years ago. Expect them to go huge for next year with the new stadium ... they will always be dangerous.

I never count the NYY out of anything but they cannot overcome all of the injuries they have right now.

Reminds me of the Sox in 06 with the injuries.

First the celts emabarrass the fakers and now this; life is good.:D

since when is a 6 and a half game lead in august a big lead? they still play the sox 6 times. im not saying they are going to catch the sox . i just think its pre mature to count the yankees out.

They're done man. Sure such leads have been conquered before but this team has shown absolutely no signs of being able to go on a big playoff push run.

Last year they were aided by an MVP season by A-Rod and a spectacular offense, this year? Not so much.

Yankees as of August 16th, 2008

GB Wild Card leader: 7.0 (Red Sox)
GB AL East leader: 10.5 (Rays)

Hope you're right, Disco. But I never count the Skanks out-til they're out.

they won 8 out of 10 after the all star break:confused:

That was over a month ago when the team was in much better shape.

Sidney Ponson starting today.

Toronto creepin' ah come up.

other than joba they aren't in any worse shape then they were after the allstar break. the yankees always play the sox tough and they have 6 left with them. the yanks aren't out of it yet unfortunately. i wish they were. you must not have followed baseball for very long because I've seen bigger leads disappear very quickly.

It'll be absolutely hilarious if Toronto and even Baltimore surpasses the Yankees in their last season at Yankee stadium

the yankees won with him pitching tonight.

I'm with you patspride, the way we've played in certain series, I'm not even sure the Yanks can't beat us out for the wildcard; especially when your "ace" craps out and gives up 6 run first innings to "non contenders" like the Jays. As crap as we have looked at times, there's nothing to suggest we can't blow our lead in the WC and/or blow our lead over the Skanks. If we can't figure out how to beat mediocre teams when it matters, how the hell are we going to beat good teams when it matters (witness 2x swept by LAA)?

this thread is moronic. the lead is down to 5 in the lose column and the twins are now tied with the sox in the loss column for the wildcard. i love to **** on the Yankee's but people should wait till its officially over so they dont make a ass of themselves.

This post is moronic and you will realize it when the Yankees inventively fail to make the playoffs.

But please, do post every time the Yankees win between now and the end of the season trying to make me second guess my highly factual topic. I'm very impressed with the Yankees going 2/3 at home against one of the worst teams in baseball.

The Yankees will not be surpassing us this season and unless they do your posts will have been proven to be failures. Feel free to call me a "moron" at any point the Yankees are leading in the Wild Card standings, which they never will be thus making you the moron in this topic.

lol lol :Di never said the yankees would over take the redsox. i said starting this thread in the second week in august when the yankees were only down 6 was stupid. there is a difference. i never called you a moron i said the thread was moronic. im not trying to make you second guess anything. there is nothing highly factual in your thread. just your opinions.
