Red Sox acquire Byrd from Indians

I'm expecting nothing from the guy. He is extremely hittable but doesn't give up many walks.

I guess he's insurance for the 5th spot in the rotation for now...

i think its a great pick up. the guy has plenty of playoff exp. his era is in the mid 4.50 range but that is with a losey indians team. i would rather see byrd out there right now then bucholtz. i cant believe the yankees passed on him.

He's a league average starter (96ERA+) who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball since the ASB (4-0, 1.24ERA, 1.10WHIP). He'll strike out no one, but his 2.33 k/bb is second only to Beckett among Sox starters.

Byrd is about as good as they could have hoped for as a 4/5 starter. Very good move.

ya good point I was just reading about his stats since the All-Star break and i'm impressed

Wasn't he the pitcher that got caught lying about being on the roids?

Yeah that's him ... this guy drives me nuts .. looks like he's pitching with a stick up his butt.

Reply With Quotep his butt.

i think it was HGH and he said it was doctor prescribed but lied about it.

we needed to make this move because bucholtz was the second coming of jeff weaver.

He used HGH to treat a tumor. And he used it before the MLB considered it a banned substance, which is why he was never suspended for it.

It's a complete non-issue.

I wouldn't go that far. I don't think its an issue, but I did not buy his story when it broke, and I"m not buying now because he wears Red Sox. I do however, think he is red hot and wonder why no one else took a shot on him.

Not a bad pick up considering it was for either cash or a player to be named later. If this guy can give the Sox 7-8 more quality starts the rest of the season he could end up being pretty valuable.

The media only makes a big deal out of PED users if they are great players i.e. Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, McGwire etc.

Even Pettitte, Giambi and many old yankmees like sheffroid are off the hook.

The Byrd's, Gagne's and other mediocre players are safe for now.

the reason they made a big deal out of those situations was because those are people that lied about taking the roids; people that admitted to it either up front or later on were not pursued any longer

Right now this seems like a good pickup with Buchholz fu**ing it up

people seem to forget that byrd beat the sox and the yanks in the playoffs last year.
