TAKEO HEADING TO SAN FRAN
Posted by Mike Florio on August 10, 2008, 6:08 p.m.
Veteran linebacker Takeo Spikes, who was cut by the Eagles in March and who since has drawn scant interest on the open market, reportedly is heading to San Francisco.

The Niners have cut former starting linebacker Brandon Moore, and Spikes reportedly is due to arrive at the team’s training camp on Sunday to take a physical.

Spikes has played for the Bengals, Bills, and Eagles.

Makes a ton of sense for the Niners. He'll fit nicely next to Willis, if his health holds up.

Spikes was on the market for a LONG time. I forgot about him. He was good, once upon a time.

I love how the 49ers fell flat on their face last year after being the sexy sleeper pick.

The other guy in this transaction interests me some, I've always like Moore. He has good size @ 6-1, 245 lbs. and he's a versatile player, playing ILB, OLB and ST's in his career. He is quick and smooth with good range and change of direction. He is a strong player and he's also good at getting under OL/blockers to get off blocks while also using his hands well to do the same which would make him a fit inside with the Pats. He is quick and aggressive to the ball while also being a very solid fundamentally sound tackler. Not a good pass rusher and not really tall enough to play outside w/Pats. Seems more natural inside. He is very good on special teams. I think this player would be a solid pick up for the Pats, he is a solid football player with some experience (7 yrs) and is only 29 yrs old. I am very pleased with the LB's so far in camp and there might not be room for him especially with us being dinged at OL and CB but I think he deserves a look.

True...Who is this year's sexy sleeper pick? Cleveland, Buffalo, maybe Carolina?

Not so much a sleeper pic per-say due to some additions and a weak division but seeing as they still haven't been in the playoffs for 3 years and failed to make it last year Minnesota can fall into that category.

People have them from 8-8 to Super Bowl mostly in part to Jared Allen's addition and the development of AP.

My sleeper is Oakland. They have a super easy schedule and have a decent defense with the best set of corners in the league. If the QB comes around they should score some too. On the flip side, I see the Broncos being the worst team/picking first next year. Shanny fired his GM, his diva WR is gonna bust, his QB has diabetes, he lost his RB(and ALOT of credibility)to drugs again, they cant stop the run, and is a soap opera waiting to happen. Mark it on the calandar as Al Davis' revenge year!
