CB Fernando Bryant: I read a piece somewhere around here where Bryant was panned for giving up two long gains and was pulled after two series - the item was critical of him and intimated the coaches pulled him because he wasn't performing.

I disagree. Bryant was pulled after Derrick Mason came out limping. The two long gains were against zone coverage. The first looked like Mason just split the seam, the second could have been Meriweather as much as Bryant.

I believe Braynt was pulled to minimize his exposure to injury as much as to look at other players in coverage. I think he is going to work out nicely this season.

Pierre Woods: After one quarter, I suddenly feel much more comfortable about the depth at OLB.

Matt Cassel: I'll need to rewatch with slow-mo, but I didn't see the same problems others saw. My first impression is that he's still firmly in the running for #2, he played into the second quarter before making way for the two kids. It looked like normal division of playing time to me.

I think rewatching this with slow-mo is going to be fun, there has been some good looking play by the kids - Mayo, Guyton, Crable, Woods, Meriweather, L.Smith, Slater, Spann, Wheatley...more to come.

I'm so glad I won't be watching this coverage in the second half, who wants to see a reporter's bare feet?

I'm seeing some strong Welker influence on Ventrone - I like it.

With one half in the books, I'm quite pleased with this team.

Slater's STs play is encouraging - I think once the roster stabilizes Special Teams is going to be as good if not better then last season.

Lamont Jordan is not doing a great job as the lead blocker on KRs, Willie Andrews is being missed there.

BOR...... in your evaluation of the int, was that more likely on Jackson, Cassel or some other influence/player?

First half O-line impression - not as bad as I thought - I see some hope for those mugs.

The Cassel int? That looks like Chad all the way, but I want to look at slow-mo before I make any statement on Chad.

The Gut int looks like not enough pepper on the throw.

I was impressed with his speed. He appears faster than last year's preseason. It could be that he is much more comfortable in the base defense.

I look forward to looking at his play with slow-mo.

O'Connell is now in, the time split between the three QBs is as close to 1/3 each as you could hope for with each guy finishing out the series they started. My first impression of Gut does not have him taking the #2 job from Cassel after this game, but there were positives to work with.

what are your impressions of Gutierrez' Jeff Hostetler stache? Do you think BB made him grow it for backup Qb good luck?

As someone who has seen only highlights, there's not much for to say to someone who is watching the replay with the advantage of slo-mo. HOWEVER...from the little I've seen and the LOT that I've read, I can't imagine that the staff is in any way pleased with how Cassel performed. Seems like he had a putrid game.

Can you elaborate on what you saw that contradicts the stats and general reporting? (I don't mean this in an obnoxious, challenge-y way - I genuinely want to know what the mitigating factors are.) Thanks!

Without rewatching the stache in slo-mo? No habla. :nono:

Outside of the pick and the fumble, I think that Gut did a very nice jobwhenhewas in there. Thethrow to Pollard was clearly behind Pollard, but other than that, I liked what I saw.

I think O'Connell should have run a bit more, but he needs to get out of bounds a bit quicker.

We've got a quarter to go in the game then I will break out the remote and look at him again with slow-mo - for now, I didn't see the bad decisions some were complaining about, I'm withholding judgment on Chad until I can rewatch him and that will impact Cassel's assessment.

Yeh, to this point I'm not seeing significant negatives on any of the QBs.

What do you think of Wendell? He played guard instead of center. I'm curious about he.

If that was for me I'll have to look for him when I rewatch the game, I can only take away a general impression while I'm watching it through the first time. BPF may have something for you though.
