So if you haven't been reading ex-NFL exec Mike Lombardi's blog, I highly advise it. Very informative insight. (Esp. for fantasy tidbits.) Hopefully he keeps it up all season.

Anyway, his latest posting he waxed effusive re: Mayo:

Patriot Linebacker Jerod Mayo is going to be a very good three-down player for the Patriots. His ability to learn the scheme will enhance his production. He will make a huge difference in the Pats defense this year. Prior to the draft, I graded Mayo as my best linebacker because I was not sure that Keith Rivers could impact the game on third down.

Not that Pats fans needed even more reasons to be optimistic about Mayo, but every little bit helps.

The question is: too soon to buy a jersey? :)

I'm getting my # plate changed. It still says Zolak16 (I'm kidding). Maybe I'll try Mayo511. Hhmm....

good blog. Thanks for the link.

Vince Lombardi likes mayo. I prefer thousand island.

Really enjoy reading the discussion about how Mangini got played like a fiddle on Gholston... nice way to start the day.

Very nice blog, will have to keep an eye on it

Lombardi's blog is an interesting read, and not that it matters, but I actually agree with a lot of what I've been reading so far. He really liked Woodley coming out of college and thinks he'll have a good season, says Chris Johnson is the real deal (couldn't agree more), and praised some other players I like.

His quote of Red Auerbach "I get my information from looking, not hearing" is also a rule I've been using for some time now.

There have been a couple of threads on OL and it seems it's not only a Pats problem but a problem around the entire league per Lombardi.

6. The Patriots are having a difficult time gaining depth for their offensive line, having to sign Barry Stokes first and now John Welborne. It will be interesting to watch their line play during the preseason. The Pats will be active claiming players this summer and as a 16-win team last year, will claim more than the teams who won 4 and 5 games. Amazing, right?

10. It seems like there are a lot of teams looking for offensive lineman this time of the year, more than normal.

There's a lot of reporters out there flapping their gums on their internet. Lombardi appears to have some real insight.
