Law, Seau, and Wilhite ???

I can't see us only carrying 8 db's. I don't count Slater as a db. As of now,
the three you mentioned are all on my squad. Plus Wilhite. Maybe, we go with
8 ol or 6 dl. But, we will have at least 9lb's and 9 db's. Neal starts season on
PUP and you have your 53.

Ty Law would replace Webster IMO if we sign him. I'm curious to see M.
Richardson too. We might be selling him short.

I think Junior would replace E.Alexander. Seems like Izzo is one of BB's
favorites. His day to be cut will come eventually. Just don't think it's time
to do it this year.

Neal to the PUP is my likely solution also (and add back Wilhite). I just get tired of everyone saying that there is no reason to believe that Neal will not be ready to start the season.

I agree with Law replacing Webster, and Seau replacing Alexander. Richardson might very well replace Webster.

Spann makes the team. He seems to have new life under Capers. Whose spot he takes? I predict Eric Alexander.

QB12

I think there have been a lot of times. We've only had 8 lb's. I'm just
thinking that with a couple of rookies that we carry a vet for that 9th
slot.

Thank god first game is Thursday. Even if it's only pre-season.
Been a long off-season. And, we didn't get to enjoy what looked to be
one the best seasons for any team in any sport ever.

I think we'll be seeing Mr. Spann. Call him my dark horse.

Do we need a 9th? I guess it's 9 LB's if I count Izzo as a LB.
BTW, this LB crew will be a team strength.

OLB: Vrabel, Thomas, Woods, Crable
ILB: Bruschi, Mayo, Hobson, Seau

Great job....we are seep and stacked.

I would put Spann and Wilhite in place of Alexandar and Webster. Guyton could beat out Izza, but he would really have to show a lot in pre-season.

Otherwise, inuries & IR will mean some of the talent you hate to see leave, back on the team - of course, whoever they replace will hurt even worse.

I think we need the 8th linebakcer, Alexander or Seau.

Also, Neal and Wright are strong possibilities for the PUP list with no roster replacements, freeing up two roster spots.

And in the end, I do expect Wilhite to make this team. My "dream", as I said in the first post, is to sign Law and Seau to replace Webster and Alexander. I think that Izzo is staying. Wilhite would be in the #54 to make the team if someone is put on the PUP list or the IR.

1) Neal is on the PUP.

2) Faulk has a four game suspension.

3) Kaczur suspended? .......... I assume not for now.

4) Week Four is our bye week.

So, for the first 5 weeks (and 6 days), we have two additional open spots. After that, it drops to one additional spot for 9 weeks (Neal -PUP). So, you can add five (and remove Faulk and Neal) to your list ........ mine are:

BJ GEllis TB
V. Redd (or Alexander/Aiken/Ruud)
Wilhite
Richardson
Izzo

Other:

ILBers in a 3-4 (Mike) are hard to find. I'm reading mixed opinions on Hobson. So, don't assume Hobson makes the conversion to ILB ......... If he does, we'd have to say that we got lucky in finding him. I'd rather take a STs mayven like ILB Alexander than a conversion "project". Especially, if we don't have room for Aiken/Alexander/Ruud. Hobson must complete the greater majority of his conversion in training camp. Otherwise, what are we going to do with him?

The ninth OLman can be left on the PS. I want to get younger and faster, forget Seau - he gets tired and slower in the fourth quarter - not a good situation. Additionally, if we also put the the seventh DLman on the PS then we could gain another open (sixth slot). By game 5, we might have had a player or two placed on the IR, hopefully not. In any case, some position decisions could be deferred until then.

Spann is making this team.. book it.

Guyton should make the team.

2) Faulk has a four game suspension.

.

Do we know this for sure? I can't recall the league suspending him, though he did get a suspended sentence on the charge.

If Faulk is indeed suspended for any number of games, does he count against the 53-man roster for those games? Either way, makes the Jordan signing even more sensible. Who knows whether one of Maroney, Morris, Jordan are nicked up by week 5 or 6...

If Lynch didn't get a suspension for his first time offense, I'll be furious if Faulk does.

(1) No one has said that Faulk has been suspended. Moreover, the only way he could be suspended is if this were a second offense (the CBA specifically limits what Goodell can do in substance abuse cases).

(2) A player on PUP cannot be activated until after the sixth game of the season, but, depending on how the team handles it, can be activated at any point between the day after the sixth game and Week 13 (i.e., the twelfth game).

MGTEICH - I always enjoy reading what you have to say ... I disagree slightly. Position flexibility and getting younger at LB are the keys here. Larry Izzo plays special teams only and cannot play the ILB position in the 3-4. Izzo was third on the team for special teams tackles (Alexander was 2nd Woods was 1st). OLB Justin Rogers, who we cut last year and was picked up by Dallas had as many or more special teams tackles than either Alexander or Izzo. We have seen what Alexander has done at ILB, and I for one don't like what I have seen. Guyton has been the media darling the first week of practice and it remains to be seen if he can carry that through the entire pre-season. However, having 4.45 speed for a player that can play either ILB or OLB is a huge plus. Izzo is a proven veteran that BB loves, but if Guyton can show up on special teams, I think we have to go with youth over experience.

Ventrone and Slater play both WR/S and special teams. Slater should be the KO return guy along with Jordan. Washington and Aiken gives the Patriots the best gunner combo they have ever had. That would be 8 players that can play WR. If we are going to use 3 and 4 WR sets we need depth at this position. I see Washington taking over as the Special Teams captain.

Jordan can play an H-Back role as a 3rd TE or have Hochstein line up there as a blocker.

Mark’s Roster Projection 8/3

OFFENSE (22)

DT - 2 Wilfork, L Smith
OLB- 3 Vrabel, A Thomas, Woods,
ILB- 4 Bruschi, Mayo, Hobson, Williams
CB - 4 Hobbs, Bryant, Wheatley (Gunner), Wilhite (Gunner)
S - 4 J. Sanders, Harrison, Meriweather, Spann

At this very early point here's what I think. Obviously it's very early and the final 3-4 spots can change. At this point I like Guyton in a mild surprise over Izzo and Alexander at LB and I also like Spann inching out Richardson at DB. If the Pats go with 2 TE's I think Santonio Thomas or Fifta will be the beneficiary of the extra spot.

Offense (26)
QB's - (3) Brady, Gutierrez and O'Connell.
RB's - (5) Maroney, Jordan, Morris, Faulk and Evans.
WR's -(6) Moss, Welker, Gaffney, Washington, Jackson and Sam Aiken.
TE's - (3) Watson, Thomas and Pollard or Spach. Tough call because Watson, Thomas and Pollard are all very similar. Spach is the better blocker. This could be where the Pats save a roster spot and keep only 2 with Evans playing here occassionaly.
OL - (9) Light, Britt, Mankins, Hochstein, Koppen, Neal, Yates, Kaczur and O'Callaghan. If Neal starts the year on PUP, I go with Oliver Ross if and when healthy and if not Stokes. Ross can play both G and T and is a solid vet while also younger than Stokes with the ability to start and fill in for a longer period of time.

Defense (23)
DL - (6) Seymour, Warren, Wilfork, Smith, Green and Wright. If Wright starts year on PUP then Fifta and Thomas have a shot.
LB's - (8) Vrabel, Woods, Hobson, Mayo, Bruschi, Thomas, Crable and Guyton.
DB's - (9) Bryant, Wilhite, Hobbs, Wheatley, Spann, Harrison, Williams, Sanders and Meriweather.

ST's
(4)
PK - Gostkowski
P - Hanson
LS - Paxton
KR - Slater

From your list, I would guess:
Webster, Aiken, Spann

I would be tempted to dump a third TE right now and add another ILB.

DEFENSE (21)
DE - 4 Warren, Green, Seymour, S. Thomas
DT - 2 Wilfork, L Smith

Inactives – O’Connel, Guttierez (3rd QB), Wright, Green, Ventrone, Spann

I'll say that this roster doesn't look too bad (the biggest issue being I don't think they'll keep four QBs). That said, if Wright is healthy, why would they have Santonio active and Wright inactive?

Good Catch ... It would be Santonio on the Inactive with Wright on the PUP. If Wright is healthy then S. Thomas gets cut.
