Troy Brown????

Has anyone seen or heard anything about Troy? Has he gone quietly into the night???? If he's decided to "graduate" into the real world, I'm sure the Kraft's will plan some kind of recognition/send off??

He has not retired so he still wants to play but no one has signed him. Those are the only definites at the moment.

I would guess he is working out and waiting to see if an injury opens a door for him before he officially says he is done.

Last I heard he still wants to play. Maybe he's waiting for the Pats to offer him $20 million to stay home

Seriously, if he doesn't play this year (Mangini may want him for a locker room presence), then he will get a retirement ceremony during halftime of a game during the regular season. But it's way to early for that.

I was wondering the same thing about Troy. Not much in the news on his situation. I guess he's at home waiting for the phone to ring from another team? Anyway, I have a great deal of respect for him. He had some key plays thoughout his career for the Pats. The TD against Miami in OT comes to mind. Unfortunately for me, I'll remember the punt muff (bounced off his helmet) as the last time I saw him on the field. I hope Kraft still has a place in the organization for him when he retires.

There were rumors last year during training camp and the preseason that if the Pats cut Troy the Jesters would sign him in a heartbeat, which of course made a lot of us go . Can you imagine seeing him in green and white? Ugh.

Not me.
I have NO Problem Whatsoever with any NE Patriot player who is not wanted by this team eeking out another year's paycheck in the employ of the Forces of Darkness or whatever. It's a job and a career. Unlike Ty Law, these guys really DO hafta "feed their families".

Fortunately for Troy, he's VERY employable in retirement as an articulate spokesperson for whatever.

That's been discussed ad nauseum. We have come to agree (read: I think) that coaching is not attractive for most former players, Troy included.

I'd like to see him get a Tippett-type of position if he doesn't play this year, which looks like the inevitable at this point.

Not taking part in an NFL training camp for the first time since 1992, wide receiver Troy Brown is still putting himself through the grind.

The only difference is this summer is more mentally taxing than physically taxing.

Brown, one of the more revered players in Patriots history, has been pondering whether to play another season, spending quiet time with his family as he grapples with the difficult decision, which has colliding forces.

On one side are his feelings that the Patriots are the only team he could envision himself playing for, yet there isn't a spot for him currently in New England.

On the other side, Brown is a pure football player, having played for as long as he can remember, and feeling he still has something to offer. The Jets had him in for a visit, and other clubs have called his representatives to let them know Brown is on their radar should circumstances change (e.g. injury). Because of that, he's remained in tip-top shape.

How does Brown balance those thoughts?

It's a side of professional sports - from the athlete's perspective at the end of his career - not often explored. Some players are willing to go out wearing another team's colors. For others, it's not such an easy choice.

Kraft has said on several occasions that there will always be a place for Troy in the organization if he wants one. Coming from Kraft that indicates it will be in something other than a football ops situation. There are lots jobs to be done relative to Patriots Place and promoting the team and it's charitable operations within the community.

That would be AWESOME, imagine being able to get players insider viewpoint on things...I think Troy could pull it off and maintain his integrity & relationship with players & management, even though he becomes part of the media.
