Trick plays and multiple RB packages of old.

Let's talk about them here, in one thread. I've seen discussion of the inverted T (full house?) and the "H" (don't know that one) for RB formations.

We all loved (but almost hated) the clumsy Flea Flicker by the Pat's last year (was that really an FF?) and have heard rumours of trick plays running in camp.

So those of you with long memories or monster google skills, let;s catalog and chat about some of the things we'd love to see pop up and confuzzle defenses this year.

I vote split backs and full house formations. Brady would definitely have some eye time.

I realize that today's game is not the same as the one from previous eras, but I can't help but recall when the Pats had four backs running the ball on a regular basis.

Sam Cunningham, Andy Johnson, Horace Ivory and Don Calhoun - what a rotation! If you never saw him, Calhoun may have been the best #4 RB in the history of the NFL. And then behind them was a guy named Mosi Tatupu.

1976 Pats stats - SamBam, Andy Johnson & Calhoun: over 2900 yards from scrimmage
1978 Pats stats - 3165 total team rushing yards - and no one individual had over 800 yards - think about that!
1974 Pats Stats - Plunkett w/Mack Herron; last year before Sam Bam

That 78 team...though had a Steve Grogan who was 4th best rusher on the team...and only 150ish yards away from being the second best (behind Sam the Bam) and Tatupu..ran for only a few yards as he was more the ST player...
BUT you are correct..there were 4 runners with pretty different type skills...Cunningham was more the real fullback...and AndyJ was quite the all round RB...could even throw the ball and both of these were big time receivers.. I always liked high stepping Calhoun..who would come in later in the game as the D worn down and he would slash through the line..a lot different style than AJ or SC while Ivory was more the quick outside threat....
(but the passing game Morgan vet Jackson and TE all world Francis?? Hmmm quite GOOD!!) That was the year Stingley went down in preseason...but what an offense!)

Wasn't that against Miami in 2001? Maybe Patten threw it?

In camp I saw them run the play where Brady throws to Moss who then throws BACK to Brady who then threw long to Gaffney (who missed the catch). It worked in the regular season last year. I expect to see it again, especially against a DC not known for watching every game film.
