The players are happy he's gone.
The manager is happy he's gone.
If Bay plays according to his averages we'll be fine.
We're just fans being fans.

Well he plays his first big game tonight.

Trying to hang on to their fragile half game Wild Card lead, avoiding their 6th loss in 7 games and making a good first impression as Manny's replacement is quite a lot for a regular season game.

Not to mention we better take advantage of the Yankees being pounded by the best team in baseball right now.

You know what will totally help Bay acclimate? Us Sox fans reverting to the ultra-pessimistic Chicken Littles we were pre-The Steal.

Can the guy at least see a pitch before we gather up the pitchforks?

i agree you should spend as little time as possible on the Internet and more time in your sandbox in your back yard.

What are you talking about? He played for Canada in the World Baseball Classic and was in the homerun derby a couple of years ago. Representing your country on that stage is big enough. But as some posters have suggested his 1st game tonight will more than likely be his biggest to date.

Now I know why Theo likes him so much:D

Following an aggressive Public Relations campaign by the Pirates in 2006, Jason Bay led all National League outfielders in All-Star voting. Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder even urged fans to vote for Bay during a summer concert at Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena.

Wow. Nice job.

You gotta wonder how the Boston media failed to pick up on this. I mean looking at his record and stats, its clear that this guy just can't handle big time games.

Oh sure, the naysayers will point out that all of that might have something to do with the Pittsburgh Pirates, arguably the worst run team in all of professional sports, or perhaps the fact that Pittsburgh spends an average or $40 million on its payroll since he's been there.

The same naysayers will assert that teams like the Yankees ($200 million) and Red Sox ($130 million) who pay more money for better teams tend to be in the playoffs more often, but you and I know that's a fallacy, don't we?

Heck - it wouldn't surprise me if Bay, not being able to stand the pressure of the big games and all - is quietly advocating to keep Pittsburgh averaging #27 out of 30 teams in payroll investments so that he doesn't have to play a long season nor every feel the pressure of a big time game.

You've hit upon a MAJOR but unnoticed statistic here. God knows why the media doesn't take the average fan more seriously.

He played in a big game tonight, got on base 3 times and scored both runs for the Red Sox, including the game winner in the 12th after getting on base with a huge triple.

Manny who?

You said it all. Disco. Thanks for the memories, Manny. Now go Bay Sox!

Bay with a 3 run HR in the first!

This guy has already accounted for 5 runs in 1.1 games.

But...but....he's not Manny! Whaaaaa!!!!

Make that .. :D"7":D

Manny's saying he loves LA and wants to finish his career there.
Last night he ran out an infield single on a knee with tendenitis totally gone ... cured by a witch doctor?
Oh ... here we go ... good luck dodgers .... will they dare say we'll discuss his contract when the season is over?

Bay has a very quick bat ... not quite Nomar quick but pretty close. He's swinging on pitches a little later than most guys thanks to that quickness.

In other news besides Bay's good game tonight (8/2) Heidi Watney is giving me a chubby with that tight buttoned coat with the hat on .... she is lethal gorgeous. Hazel Who?
