Report: Jets hold serious talks about Favre

Re: Report:Jets hold serious talks about Favre

Im sorry but this is pure comedy. Pennington is the easiest QB in the NFL to gameplan around and all you need it decent defensive players. Bretts year last year obliterates anything CP has ever done. Brett is a top 10 QB right now, Pennington is a bottom ten QB right now

your logic is slightly off IMHO as Favre is a top 10 QB on the Packers right now. He drops significantly if he goes to the Jets because the Jets will not surround him with the supporting cast that is currently in GB. If Favre goes to the Jets he will not be the Favre of last year simply because he will not have the weapons that he had last year.

Just trade him to the Vikes already its what he wants, the pack does not want him.. And now he is considering taking the money not to play??? all this drama for what??? That is why makes Espn sooooo special..

Again everyone says you cant trade him in the division...

Hello anyone every hear of a trade that sent Drew Bledsoe to Buffallo

Drew's record against the pats 1-5 .. And that 1 was the game after they realesed lawyer milloy,

The Favre and Bledsoe situations were different. In the Pats case, Belichick felt not only that Bledsoe couldn't play at a high level anymore, but he didn't care about playing him twice a year.

In the Packers case, they don't want Favre back, granted, but it has little to do with his current ability, but rather, him hindering the development of their future quarterback, the sideshow, and threatening retirement every season. Whether they are doing the right thing or not by letting their best qb go, who knows?

But clearly they have to realize by letting him go to Minnesota, they are turning a weakness of their biggest rival into a strength. While they themselves are getting weaker. Belichick didn't think Bledsoe going to the Bills was going to make them all that much better, and certainly wasn't threatened. If he was, he wouldn't have traded him to the Bills in the first place. There's a reason why the Packers have maintained since the beginning that they wouldn't give him his release or trade him in the division.

What leverage does Favre actually have to force the Packers' hand one way or the other? Is it that he's still under contract with them and reinstatement by the commissioner is an automatic? This isn't clear to me.

OK, the Jets sign Favre and Pennington comes to New England as our number 2. Perfect! :)

where do I sign:D

The only big difference between the Pack and Jets O's is 3rd WR and TE. Cotch and Coles are just as good if not better then Jennings and Driver. However the production they get out of The third receiver spot and TE give th packers the edge. However a player like Dustin keller with a lot of vertical ability could close the gap. The RB's also are about even. Jones had a terrible year but we had a terrible o-line. Is there really that big a difference between Jones and Leon vs Brandon Jackson and Ryan Grant?

Favre's leverage are in his threats to create a media circus and become a season long distraction in the locker room - either in Green Bay or anywhere they trade him he does not want to go.

I have a source inside the Jets front office. The serious discussions went like this:

"We should bring Favre in."

"Nice. Call his agent."

<dialing>

"Hey, we want to trade for your client."

"Are you serious?" *click*

But I think the point is he's still under contract, which means the Packers must "do" something with him -- play him, trade him or release him. What I don't get is the reinstatement part (from officially retired to active player): Is the commissioner required to reinstate Favre because he's still under contract and wants to play?

Of more significance is that the Jets had a practice that their coach publicly called "a joke" and "going through the motions." Wow. Can you imagine what we'd think of this year's Pats team if Coach B said that at some point this week?

NOO i want to laugh at Chad some more....i still laugh at them both so i guess its ok

edit: This is what he said Mangini ripped the team after a lethargic morning practice, which lasted 2 hours, 9 minutes - the longest of camp. He had been keeping practices under two hours, but, "I mean, come on, it's a joke compared to what we've done (in past years)."

he was referencing the shorter practice times

Come on, I didn't even know the article existed and it took me ten seconds to find: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2008/07/mangini-on-morning-practice-no.html

I edited my last post when I saw this. He was referring to the practice times as a joke. He said he would keep them down to under 2 hrs this year as compared to the previous 2 yrs.

Going through the motions noted his guys had a bad practice. Im sorry but not even your Patriots are sharp everyday in practice in the beginning of august. Especially when they involve mostly reserves

So what went wrong in practice? The offense was atrocious. QB Brett Ratliff threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown by CB Ahman Carroll. TE Bubba Franks had a couple of drops. WR Wallace Wright had two drops. CB Justin Miller had terrible coverage on a deep ball to WR David Clowney, who hauled in a 30-yard pass from Kellen Clemens. The screen game was all out of whack. The pass protection was shaky. Well, you get the idea.

1) "Going through the motions" denotes that players aren't even trying, and that's a whole lot worse than just having a bad day.
2) I bet the Pats have tons of bad practices. Difference is I don't recall hearing Belichick say that publicly.

1)No it means his guys made mental and physical mistakes and had a bad day. Read the quote provided on what went wrong.
2)What difference does it make, is there going to be a player coach clash b/c he said this? Why does my coach have to have the exact same style of Belichick?

You really don't have a grasp of what "going through the motions" means. It's an insult, and a dig at the level of someone's commitment to a particular task.

If my boss tells me that I had a bad day, that's one thing. Everyone has bad days. If he tells me that I'm just going through the motions, I'll either start busting my ass or updating my resume.

The comment was skewed by the media. He was actually calling his team a joke.

Re: Report:Jets hold serious talks about Favre

You're being unfair to Favre. He had 2 down years after his offensive line was gutted, his receiving corp was rebuilt and his running backs turned into Samkon Gado.
Exactly right. Favre is only "good" when he has a perfect team around him. He had that last year. He won't with the Jests.

That is why Favre is so insistent on playing for the Vikings. They have a strong team: superb defense, superb running game, good receivers. Kliff Kingsbury could take the Vikings to the playoffs.

Favre isn't stupid. He'll tank in NY or TB, and he knows it. He knows why his stats went up last year.

He'll never sign for the Jests. He'll shoot his way into Minn, take them to the Superbowl, and will be NFL Player of the Year and immortalized forever.

Sad, but true.

He also is not good against good teams as evidenced by his playoff performance which might be the worst of any QB this decade.

last years packers team was perfect? Every QB has basic necessities to win in this league including: a good o-line, a solid RB, and a WR or two. The packers had only Driver on the offense in the 2 yrs before the breakout year. The o-line was terrible, samkon frickin gado/ ahman green was his every down back and he had driver at WR and in yr 2 he had a rookie Greg Jennings who got hurt. He had Ruviell Martin as his starting WR at one point.

You insult the jets O but their offense has two receivers capable of 1,100+ yards, a good RB duo, and a solid o-line. That does not include a first round TE with great ability in the passing game to create mismatch issues.

How did Brady do in the Super Bowl when just one of his interior linemen was replaced by a lesser player? Favre had both guards replaced, had major change at wideout, and had his running back become Samkon Gado.

Why is it that people here can't just accept that other players in the league are good, even if they aren't on the Patriots?
