Here's a easy on the eyes comparison...

Jason Bay - Left Fielder (from Pittsburgh Pirates)
2004 NL Rookie of the Year / 2 Time All-Star ('04, '06)

Age
Bay: 29
Ramirez: 36
Edge: Bay by 7 years

2008 Salary
Bay: $6 million
Ramirez: $20 million
Edge: Bay by $14 million

Batting Average
Bay: .282
Ramirez: .299
Edge: Ramirez by .017

Home Runs
Bay: 22
Ramirez: 20
Edge: Bay by 2 HRs

RBI's
Bay: 64
Ramirez: 68
Edge: Ramirez by 4 RBI's

On Base %
Bay: .375
Ramirez: .398
Edge: Ramirez by .023

Slugging %
Bay: .519
Ramirez: .529
Edge: Ramirez by .010

A more than suitable replacement for Ramirez, and a better fielder. Areas where Manny leads are by miniscule margins, while Bay played in a inferior lineup.

And Bay is going to a better lineup so those margins might close even more.

Nope. Sorry. I'm certain that Manny was batting .450 with 120 RBI and a 1.000 fielding percentage. At least, that's the way some people are talking.

Bay hitting infront of Big Pap, his numbers will be better. Do not know his swing but Fenway is a hitters park.

jason bay plays in the national league

manny ramirez - american league.

edge - ramirez by a lot.

even the pirates guys the yanks acquired(nagy or nady) haven't been that great. Theo should have insisted for more. and now manny will light it up in an easier national league and weak NL West.

it was a no win situation for the sox. i dont care how good manny is . if hes going to dog it and quit on the team then you had to dump the guy. i like bay but i dont like including hansen and moss to the deal.

Bay batted .247 last year. Don't leave that little factoid out of the comparison when comparing the guy to a first ballot HOF.

Who'd ever think Manny and Torre would be together like this?

 you can't make this stuff up ... it's comic book material.

"Who'd ever think Manny and Torre would be together like this?"

I can just see Manny conducting his first interview after the trade "Well you know, I grew up in New York and you know, I always wanted to play for the Yankees you know and I have a great deal of respect for Mr Torre you know and it is a priviledge to play for him and those guys over there you know like Jeter, Rivera, Giambi, Arod................." "Ah Manny, Joe is the manager of the Dodgers now, you've been traded to the Dodgers, not the Yankees"......."Really? Oh well, I'm just Manny being Manny you know"...............

Yes, his improvement worries me.

Which one doesn't belong:

2004: 61 R /26 HR/ 82 RBI/ .282 AVG (in 120 games)
2005: 110 R/32 HR/101 RBI/ .302 AVG
2006: 101 R/35 HR/105 RBI/ .286 AVG
2007: 78 R/21 HR/ 84 RBI/ .247 AVG (in 145 games)
2008: 72 R/22 HR/64 RBI/.282 AVG

Not sure where you see "improvement" the guy has been very consistent other than last year in a poor lineup. Sox fans are going to love this guy.

"Sox fans are going to love this guy." Of the 9,000 sox fans who have spoken out regarding this trade, you are the only clown who loves the guy, so go figure. Who's the joke now chief; that would be you.

So I'm a "joke" and a "clown", but you're quoting pink hats. Talk to me next year when the Sox have Jason Bay playing Left Field better than Manny at 13 million dollars less and can afford to go after some CC Sabathia. Again, listening to the pink hats isn't the way to go here bud.

i love jason bay. hes a excellent all around baseball player.

He's gonna be better in left field with two bad knees huh?Have you listened to any of the experts today who said he is AT BEST a wash vs Manny defensively in left, not to mention he'll have to learn to play the wall like Ted, Yaz, Rice and Manny all did. Not to mention he has the same douchebag of an agent as Manny does, so guess what; he's a free agent after next year and will walk like all of the *******s clients do.

Sabathia? Not knowing about his knees? Not knowing he can walk after next year?

What color is your hat bigmouth?

ellsbury seems to handle left field with out a propblem without playing out there a full year. the sox have plenty of boris players on there team. they have a excellent working relationship with him. to assume bay will be gone because boris is his agent is a stretch. the thing people just want to forget is manny didnt want to stay here . nobody has any clue when he would shut it down. we are talking about a guy with the brain of a ******. the sox were going to lose manny after this year no matter what. if the sox excersised his options manny would have thrown a hissy fit.

Check out PNC park, it is a band box, and Bay is not a pull hitter.

Here's a few stats for you, Manny in PNC Park

6 for 10, 2 singles, 2 doubles, 2 homers

http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/individual_player_hitting_chart.jsp?c_id=mlb&playerID=120903&statType=1

Plus he is CANADIAN!

What's wrong with Canadiens? Larry Walker was hellavu player. An all-star in Montreal and a superstar in Colorado. If we move Fenway to Mt. Washington this kid might hit 80 in those swirling 60-100 MPH winds!

Seriosly though I think you can bank on .290-30-105 #'s in the next few years. A suitable replacement for a malcontent. Manny's a better hitter than Bay will ever be but that doesn't mean we exchanged a Ferrari for a Mini-Van.
