Anyone else notice that once again Theo is paying part, or, in this case, all, of a player's contract in a trade? Not only did we give up Manny and 2 other 'prospects', but the Red Sox are paying ALL of Manny's salary.. I guess it shows how desperate the Sox were to get rid of Ramirez.. Seems like every time this team trades a veteran player, they end up paying his salary while he plays for someone else.. I've not heard of this with other teams, anyway..

theos not paying anything john henry is.

I also think John Henry flicked the switch, not Theo, or Francona.
i think everybody from the front office to the players had grown tired of mannies act as have i. i loved manny but i dont blame the sox for trading him one bit. manny went way over the line this year with his bull ****.

I think what really pushed the FO over the edge were all the comments made these last two weeks.

I was pretty neutral on Manny, just figured he was being 'Manny' again. But then he went and said that the Red Sox don't "DESERVE" a player like him. That just came off as too self-absorbed and conceited. Sorry. I didn't appreciate that comment at all. Have fun in LA, Manny. Bye.

Gee, you mean the owners have to pay the players salary, and not the GM? Thanks for clearing that up..

I understand everyone wanted Manny gone.. but the guy is still a good player.. It's not like paying someone to take Lugo or something.. I'm just surprised they had to throw in Manny's contract to get a taker..

If they had more time I think they might have. I read that that is what stopped the Marlins deal is Manny's leftover contract. I think with 1 min left they said fine, we'll pay it just take him.

.
then why start your thread theo pays? doesnt make any sense. how about john henry pays? anyway glad i could help.

Sox are a well financed team. Others are not.

If you don't give up cash; you give up talent.

Got another young promising minor leaguer in mind you wanted to give up for that $7M?

All teams, high payroll and low payroll, pay for players that are on other teams. This is not something that Theo does more than any other GM in baseball.

Trading cash is extremely common.

Theo is the GM.. GM's make trades- owners pay salaries.. Didn't think I had to explain that..
