I am wholly surprised that no one questions the obvious weakness on this loaded team, now that they have signed Lamont Jordan.

There is not an established reserve QB.

BB/SP never let things like that happen, if they have the room to do something about it. Who do they pickup and sign when he's cut by Pack.

TA DA... Bret Favre for a Total Surprise. He ends his career sitting behind Tom Brady. Pack sends him to AFC, long ways from Vikes and Bears. And the only team where he can't mess up the club.

I think Farvre is interested in basically the opposite of that idea. If he doesn't want to back up Rodgers, who at least has a chance of sucking, why would he want to back up Brady?

Say NO to drugs.
Really.

Tom Brady actually played as Tom Brady's backup last year.

(See: Dolphins game)

who was the backup last year?

cassell. he's doing pretty good in tc so far. i think the pats are letting brady rest and give cassell more snaps in training camp to prepare him for the regular season.

thanks for answering. it was more rhetorical.

cassel's days are numbered. i think it's his last season and i would not be surprised if he gets cut

They never let it happen. Um, you mean like last year?

OK Lisa, then we will fly to Mars for dinner.

Never? Who was the established reserve QB last season?

cassel's days are numbered.
And the number is:
the number of days between today and March 1, 2009.

BB was satisfied with Matt Cassel as backup last year. Nothing has happened to make him change his mind since then.

so do you think:

1. Pats carry 4 QBs

2. O'Connell goes to the practice squad.

3. One of them gets dumped

i say they cut guttierez and hope he makes it to ps, but we'll see come preseason

I think if either Gut or Cassel get cut, they'll get snapped up PDQ as an instant back up somewhere.

That said, just from reading the Blog's and notes on TC, Cassel seems to be doing ok.

3. One of them gets dumped

1. They've done it before, but losing 1 of Cassell or Gutierrez doesn't sound that bad.

2. KO would never make it to the practice squad. Almost guaranteed he'd be picked up on waivers first. You just know Mangini would love to stick it to BB by stealing his project QB.

3. Answered in point 1.

Pats had no choice . The had only a few cap dollars then. Now they have 10 million plus. They only had three RB last year too. No one to fill in for Kevin if he got dinged. And he did... in the SB! (they missed his blitz pickups and a few FD from the backfield too.) This year they had the luxury of adding a fourth RB , and they did, and someone who can catch as well, too.

I don't think the Pats trade anything but a "future consideration" for the rights to negotiate with Bret Favre, but they might give up a bucket of warm spit and a Xmas card.

Bret said he wants to go to a "contendah" I think the Pats qualify as one. What "contendah" did you ever know that had no QB?

N-O-N-E.

Bret's contract has to be scraped/renegotiated, to a round a million or so. Otherwise he is free to go elsewhere to a "contendah", without a QB, whatever that is.

Why would Bret b/u in Foxboro when he could start in Miami? Can't imagine him backing up anybody happily.

The Lamont Jordon pickup is the answer ... if Brady goes down the Patriots offense will be a running game and a good one at that.
