Where is Seau?

I agree with Kontradiction. I watched the Eagles game last year, and that's where their offense was striking- over the middle.

You could make the argument that the Chargers did so also in the playoff game; if my memory serves me correctly, Phillip Rivers targeted there alot too.

Linebacker is an area that needs speed and youth.

i agree, i think the weakness over the middle was our defensive playcalling. why wouldnt you play conservative when we had the offense we did?

capers will change it up, i hope. faster, younger, blitz you till you bleed then blitz you some more kinda coverage.

To be fair, Rivers targeted the secondary a lot more than the middle of the field.

At times I thought Seau was playing with more fire, speed, sharpness and stamina than a 24 year old last season. Amazing for a man of his age at that level.

BB/ Capers will approach each game based on the opponent and based on the situation so I'll feel better knowing Seau's around somewhere for the times we need him. He always gives 110% each and every time and he's smart. He made some tremendous plays last season- he's definitely still got gas in the tank and used wisely, he should have a few more this season.

He'll be back sooner or maybe later, but I think he'll be back :)

I hope he's surfing and enjoying his retirement. I'm in super **** mode today and I know I'm going to get flamed for this but I, for one, do not want him back. I appreciate what he's done for us but I've seen this defense get completely gassed at the end of two huge games. I want our defense as young and as fast as we can get it. If anything, I'd rather him come back in the event that injuries ravage our LB corps. But, if that doesn't happen, I want Junior to enjoy his retirement.

Seau didn't even play in the Colts AFCCG. Having old guys get gassed isn't a problem if you have depth. The problem was lack of depth more than age in the past- old guys had to play more than they should have been playing, due to injuries.

Uh... I didn't say that Seau played in the AFCCG. But I did say our defense was gassed. A valid point if you actually watched the game.

And if Seau HAD played, it stands to reason that they would have been less gassed, yeah? Which makes it pretty strange that you site this as an example for why you don't want him back. You're basically saying "because this team gets gassed at the end of big games due to its lack of depth at key position, I don't want them to sign any more depth".

Are you saying that you wouldn't want Seau in on our defense on third and short in the playoffs? No, he isn't an every-down player any more. He hasn't been for several years, and was only in that role last year because Colvin's injury forced him into it. But, in certain situations, he can still be very effective.

Jeez, calm the hell down.

I am calm. You're the one in here flinging around capitalized letters and such. I'm just saying that I want some youth on the defensive side of the ball. Maybe if you go back and read my posts, you'll see that I don't want Seau and Bruschi as full time starters. Here, let me help you...

It's just me said:
This would actually be the only way I'd want him back in a Pats uniform. A situational/transitional guy who can mentor the likes of Mayo/Crable/etc.

So yes, I would have no problem with depth. I just don't believe it was depth that cost us that game. But you disagree so it's whatever.

That's what I was referring to.

Calm down comment referring to that. Everyone on this board watched that game, obviously. Saying that someone must not have watched the game because they don't agree with your assessment of it is pretty juvenile...

Plus, I never had any complaints about Seau's play over the last two seasons. If there was a weak link once Colvin went down, it was probably Bruschi.

I completely agree. As of now, I'd rather have Junior than Bruschi, though I wish he could've stopped Jacobs on 4th/1. Junior & Bruschi as Hobson's & Mayo's backups sounds good to me. Guyton can replace Izzo & Alexander and, next year, Bruschi.

One of the very, very, many shames about not winning the last two SBs is that Junior, Bruschi, Troy & Rodney could have retired with back-to-back rings, and the transition to more youth & speed would have been made easier to take.

P.S.: BM2344, are you thinking about changing your handle now?

Seau made this team 2 years ago off a beach in San Diego. He could do it again if we needed him to.

Ugh, I feel you there.

I believe it was towards the end of the AFCCG when he cut down Michael Turner in the backfield on 3rd and short. That was the play of the game. That said, at some point you have to move forward with the young guys.

I expect Seau will be on BB's speed dial should we suffer an injury crisis at LB during the season. I agree his influence in the locker room would be immense, but not enough to bring him back unless we have injuries at LB.

I never really understand the youth movement....Why do you want a player who is younger every time, I want the players who are better. I am not sure why winning would make the transition easier? It may have made the decision for those guys to retire but not sure why that makes a transition easier, actually it may make it tougher as it is probably better to have the vets around to ease the transition rather than force the younguns to the wolves.

If they had won back to back rings wouldn't the transition be scary rather than easier. I mean you would be getting rid of guys that just helped you win back to back for youth.

Just saw him on Best Damn and he looked great. He said he's recovering from a separated rotor cuff injury. He talks with BB almost everyday. He's enjoying his recuperation time, surfing and spending time with his kids etc. He's hopeful that when he's healed that he'll be able to play and that at that time the Pats have a spot for him. He said that the Pats locker room is full of players that he "loves" and that he'd like to be back playing with them and finishing some business.
All sounds good!

Great description of the "Shadow Roster"

They've been talking about him a lot on X-Games, apparently he's been training with one of the BMX guys and surfing. Great to hear that he's keeping in touch with BB, I'm leaning more and more towards the idea that Tank is just learning the D from his position until Junior is feeling better and it's quite a bit later in TC...could be wrong, but I'm hoping our ILB rotation is Seau, Bruschi, Hobson, and Mayo in a 4 man rotation that keeps the vets fresh and kicking butt, and allows the new guys to make an impact and learn the system without being overwhelmed. With Tank capable of playing the position and Rodney also there, the run vs. pass defense is versatile to be amazing and stay fresh all 60 minutes. Fingers crossed...
